What is the price of a hog huntOur season continues to be very productive and we have tagged 6 nice bucks on our 1200 acre ranch.
Still have a bunch of young bucks running around that need a couple more years to grow
Yesterday number 50 hog went down.....only a couple hundred more to go.
A father and son got their limit of ducks yesterday also and now is our time to do a little mixture of hunting different critters.
I got the seasons first Sandhill crane a week ago and man is that some great eating....Ribeye from the Sky!
Took this pic as they were coming into the area I set up in after spotting them in this area a few days before

Every New Years I invite friends over for fellowship and prepare various game recipes with game I harvested.
This years bounty included, Duck Gumbo, Pulled Pork sandwiches and some Sandhill Crane (Ribeye from the Sky).
The crane was fantastic, grilled medium rare, tender and juicy!
I love to watch some of the folks that are skeptical on eating game marvel on how tasty it can be without any gaminess.
Making a pot of Venison Vegetable soup today to add to the mix!View attachment 100016View attachment 100017View attachment 100018

We had another great Turkey opener here in TX and I scored on a nice Gobbler in the afternoon of opening day.
I believe it may be my best tasting bird yet. I injected the breasts with Tony C's Creole Butter and rubbed the with Cajun seasoning and wrapped in Saran Wrap and refrigerated overnight. Fired up the pellet grill in the morning and smoked them for 1 1/2 hours using Hickory pellets. Finished them of to 165 degrees and then wrapped them tightly in Saran Wrap again and refrigerated for 12 hours before slicing them up on the meat slicer.
The wife has done a wild Turkey Sour Cream Enchiladas recipe that was excellent. I have done some open faced Turkey sandwiches with cream gravy and melted cheese and we have had some great sliders also.

Protecting them from deer. ?Those are tree tubes. Closest tube is a persimmon. The two middle ones are pears. In the background is various oaks, mulberry, etc.
It does protect them from deer. It also has a greenhouse effect and accelerates growth on the small seedling trees. I planted an 18" tall sawtooth oak and in one year it went to7 ft tall.Protecting them from deer. ?

For the past 4 years I have been spoiling myself by doing the Cast and Blast package at the Lodge at Chama in Chama NM. This is a spectacular Lodge, top shelf food and beverage and the views in the mountains are breathtaking. We hunt Grouse in the mornings and have a nice lunch in the field followed by some great trout fishing.
I have another trip booked this August and will be taking my son with me for the first time.
