I am helping a gentleman out that has a 2020 Pioneer 1000 that he bought used With less than 200 miles on it, and he did not get extended warranty, and of course, warranty ran out.
He is in Lake City, CO now, and having this problem. Thought I would see if anyone has an idea what may be happening. This is what I know.
only happens when in 4wd.
happens when upshifting on a hill, but not downshifting.
it is an intermittant clicking noise, and can feel vibrations in gas pedal when happening.
sounds like it is coming from under passenger seat
for now, he will just stay in 2wd to be sure he doesn’t damage it more.
he said he put mobil 1 in subtrans and engine, and oil levels are good in both.
I tried loading an iphone video of noise, but was in wrong format for this forum.😟
I am not sure why he would have it in 4wd on the paved road, though.

He's not supposed to have it in 4 wheel drive on pavement. For pavement use he should be using Turf Mode only.

Have him try 4WD on the dirt and see if it still makes the noise.

There is a rattle the Pioneer is known for, going uphill under load, when the machine needs to downshift but hasn't yet...could this be it?

If you hit the paddle and downshift and it goes away immediately, then it's the known rattle.

Single click or rhythmic?

A loud, heavy single CLICK sound heard just a split second before or as the DCT (transmission) shifts may be the large, heavy duty relay that triggers the shift. That's normal.

If it's a rhythmic clicking sound that continues that would be something entirely different and perhaps an indication of a broken tooth on a gear.

He needs to get that Mobil 1 out of that engine PRONTO!!! (Unless Mobil 1 makes an ATV oil I don't know about?) He's going to destroy his clutches in short order. He needs to read the owner's manual. This isn't a lawnmower. (Sorry for the tone...but ya gotta read!!!)

I think this 4T oil from Mobil 1 is OK (used it in my P500 with no issues).

The label states "full synthetic." Are you sure the DCT clutches won't be damaged by synthetic lube?

No snake oil goes in my Pioneer! Honda oils only for me but each to his own.

Yeah, that should be fine because "motorcycle oil" has the friction modifiers necessary for the wet clutches. I didn't know Mobil 1 was making motorcycle oil. Hopefully, this is what the OP is running and not regular Mobil 1. Thanks!
