It's been several months since I bought my base 700-4 and accessorizing has been going slow with a lot of other projects taking priority at our new home. With winter fast approaching I realized it was time to get my butt in gear. This is a progress report since there some more additions pending after I quit worrying about installing a 2 battery. Here's all the add-ons so far.
I put on a factory half roof right after I got it and then a SuperATV poly half windshield. We used the rig all summer around the property and didn't lower the windshield once. Then last month it started getting cold and wow, such a huge difference! Love having it on. Then the next add was a Kemimoto back panel. The instructions for the back panel were overall very good, but they were a bit unclear about where the bottom flaps were supposed to go. I initially folded them back up inside the cab, but quickly realized they needed to go downward, behind the tilt bed latches. The panel fits tightly and the zippered back window is easy to operate, rolls up well, and doesn't interfere with the tilt bed.
That's my Motoalliance heavy duty cart in the background. It's great and I highly recommend it.
Next I added Kemimoto side mirrors and an Issyauto rear view mirror. The side view mirrors are very basic but work fine. I like that they're not too large. The rear view mirror is nice but I had to use some extra rubber spacers I had to get it to fit the smaller roll bar on the 700.
There's also a dome lite next to the miror that's rechargeable and has two settings, spot and a wide angle. The straps are almost too long for the smaller roll bar so the fit is more loose than I'd prefer, but it holds okay and will get replaced with a wired one once I get my second battery installed anyway.
Two weeks ago I added the Badlands 5500 lb. long drum winch with a synthetic rope and a KFI mounting plate that had been sitting in my garage for months. I used the cutoff switch that came with the winch just in case. The installation of everything went really quickly. I didn't want to mount the cutoff switch under the hood where I ended up putting it (trying to save space for the 2 battery wiring and components), but the cable lengths helped make my decision for me. I mounted the solenoid on the sloping plastic piece behind the radiator.
Then while doing some research on plows/plowing (this will be my first winter having to plow a very long driveway), I decided to get the SuperATV EZ Steer power steering kit from the SXS store along with the key-on power pigtail. Thank you @Hondasxs for the great deal!
I installed that this weekend. After having just installed the winch, I was worried I'd have to move the solenoid, but I got lucky and there was plenty of clearance. I just needed to unbolt it while I was installing the PS. Looking at the instructions it seemed pretty simple, which it was except for the really limited access to one of the bolts. Specifically it was the lowest bolt where the mounting plate mates to the factory mount on the frame. The instructions recommend using a socket extension to reach it through the dash, but it was so far away I didn't have extensions that would even get close. After a LOT of trying a variety of access spots and contortions, not to mention dropping the bolt into the skid pan a few times, I finally got that bolt installed from the left front wheel well. That spot, and a few others, required a lot of micro wrenching to tighten the bolts thanks to limited access. After getting it installed I fired up the rig and... nothing, it didn't work when I moved the steering wheel. I checked incoming power, the fuse, then grabbed a beer and looked up the trouble shooting page. Sure enough, the first troubleshooting step (disconnecting and reconnecting the 4 plugs) did the trick. One of them must not have been fully inserted. I can't believe what a difference the PS makes. If you have a Pioneer without PS, it's worth every penny to add it. And if you've got smaller hands than I do, it probably won't be that difficult to install.
Last thing this weekend was installing the dual backup light kit from the club store.
"installing" might be an exaggeration though because it was so easy. One thing that I discovered while running my wire for the lights was that I'm missing one of the two hinge pins for the tilt bed (closest hinge in the photo below).
I thought the dealer forgot to install the pin when they put the rig together, but there are some wear marks on the metal where you can see the bolt was there. I have no clue how it could have fallen out, but I'll be sure to check them more often after I get a new pin.
I think, that's it for what's been added so far. Y'all weren't kidding about Accessory Sickness. I think it's slowing down though which will be good for my wallet. The antibiotics must be working.
Things that are in the garage now but not installed: Denali 72 inch snow plow (red of course) from the club store, 22" LED light bar from Harbor Freight (will install below the windshied and above the hood, and all the bits for my 2 battery installation: 2nd battery, Harbor Freight ammo can for the battery box that I'll install under the driver seat, and move the oil fill like several here have done (I don't weld), fuse box, stinger, bus bars, True isolator and 3-way aux power switch from the club store.
Also have some LED replacement bulbs that didn't fit, at least I don't think they did. The plug fit and they inserted/twisted in, but I've read here that the LEDs need to point to the side, not up and down. These lights would only mount with the LEDs pointing upwards. Unless someone tells me that up and down is correct, the lights are getting returned and I'll hopefully find others that mount the correct direction.
I want to thank everyone here who've helped me along the way with your posts/questions and answers/photos. As a first time SXS owner and not being a "car guy", I've got a lot to learn and this forum has been great. This post was a lot more words than I expected. Hopefully I met the minimum photo to word requirement. Cheers!
