Anybody else have R/C crawlers? Forgot how much fun these things are. Finally ordered some new batteries for mine and took it out for a spin. It's a 1/10 scale Axial SCX10

This is a TRX 4 by Traxxas.

We did a custom wheelbase stretch
Larger tires
We cut the body to allow the bigger tires
Lower ring and pinion in the rear only to help with crawling
We changed the front axle to a metal one
Steel bead lock wheels
We changed a lot of parts over to brass to lower the CG
12mm wheel spacers
Stronger steering servo

Boggers of coarse! My sons choice

We built a small workbench for my son in the garage and that’s where he works on it. He begs us and grandparents to do chores to raise money for more parts. The addiction is real!

Here’s our axle rebuild. It’s built just like a truck. Even the locking front and rear differentials are built just like a modern-day vehicle

Here’s a shot that shows the brass diff cover, brass portal housings, etc.

Lmao... that’s awesome! Redneck parenting tip... He won’t have money for drugs and hookers if you get him hooked on the 4x4 addiction first!

That's awesome @joeymt33 . My little girl just likes to chase it around and flip it over when I crash. I really wish someone would make a Pioneer body for these. JConcepts has a CanAm looking UTV body but I'm not really a fan.

@joeymt33 the Traxxas comes stock with portals right? How has it held up? I looked at them when they first came out but was already into the Axial stuff from when I raced 1/8 scale nitro cars for Hobbico.

Those are cool as hell. Looks like a ton of fun!
They really are a blast! You can sink stupid amounts of money into these things. They are tough too because they are relatively slow so they are great for kids. If you run LiPo batteries they will run for 30-45 minutes pretty easily depending on terrain.

The RTR (ready to run; prebuilt) setups are great if you've never done anything with R/C before. There are kits (you put it together) too but they don't include any electronics and you'll also need a radio/transmitter.

Here is what I have - Axial SCX10II
Ready to Run Blazer

@joeymt33 runs the Traxxas TRX4
Ready to Run Bronco

There are some others that have come out recently as well but I haven't had any experience with them (Losi, Team Associated, HPI, Red Cat)

Positives:
The axles have been extremely durable and they have given us no trouble.

Traxxas has the best shocks on the market as they are adjustable coil overs that are oil filled.

You can run 2s or 3S batteries so you can get more speed out of it.

It has the adjustable motor mount so you can change the pinion gear on the motor to cheaply adjust the gear ratio way low or way high.

My son can get two hours of playing with the 5800 mAh 2S battery.

there are some negatives.
The cost is great but I enjoy watching my son go to my fathers garden to earn more money and I enjoy watching him learn how to fix things.

The upper track bar mount is plastic and it did not take us long to break it so we have upgraded that to aluminum.

The pitman arm for the steering servo is also plastic and they don’t last very long under hard abuse.

We did purchase a bearing kit but I don’t really see that is a negative having to change bearings because my son always puts it in the water and mud.

After talking about it on here we decided to get it out and go play

Hahaha we did the same. Forgot I had this XJ body that still needed to be mounted and stickered up so it gave me an excuse to get outside in this vicious hurricane

Also bought these knock off Vanquish bead lock wheels from China a couple years ago and finally got around to mounting some tires I had sitting in the garage. Sons of b****es sent me one locking ring that's too small!

Can't finish mounting them until I figure out how to make one since I can't buy just a locking ring. Going to try a 1.5" pvc coupler and turn it down in the lathe. Glad my kid was taking a nap, I said many a mother f***ers!

Finally got around to putting the little upgraded tires and wheels I ordered last year on my SCX24. Took it out to the eroded portion of the neighborhood lakes and it's like a little Grand Canyon. Ran it for over an hour (I ran out of beer actually) and it was at 3.72v on both cells when I put it back on the charger, so could have gone another half hour or so. I'm going to drive this thing up Slate Rock in a couple weeks....

We’ve been playing with SCX24’s here as well. Ms. November (2) has the red deadbolt. Mr. Sixteen has the white Jeep. We parents have the grey truck. My son is expecting wheel weights in this week. Hopefully it doesn’t start a major round of upgrades in all of them. Lol.

I have the Wraith the Axial rock racer. I race r/c's and have about 22 of them. My grail i will one day purchase is the Clodbuster I grew up looking at it in the r/c magazines and tower hobbies magazine. The two models I grew up wanting was the Tamiya Lunchbox and the ClodBsuter I have the lunchbox.

I have a 1/5th scale baja, shortcourse trucks, Traxxas -e-maxx, Traxxas mini-E Revo brushless with over $600 in upgrades. Stadium trucks from Team Associated a drift car from Losi, A 4wd truggy from Tekno. In my racers I run mostly Trinity they are a local Florida company I have some handbuilt brushless motors from Team EAM. I have a hobbyroom with r/c's everywhere. I won a raffle at one of my races of a 2wd buggy from a Jconcepts driver with one off parts. Jconcepts is a Florida company as well.
