Okay.. Honda has left us with the perfect spot to put the extra battery, but how the heck do you make sure it doesn't go flying out when your tires leave the ground-hit a bit rock-whatever else??

How did you do yours??

I used the Odyssey battery and it fit pretty snug. I never put any sort of tie down on it and it stayed for 2 years. Short of a catastrophic event I don't think it's going anywhere.

I used plastic pipe strap. Drilled a new hole on the back-side of the battery cubby, and enlarged a hole in the strap to match for a push-pin, then aligned an enlarged hole in the strap with an existing push-pin hole at the front of the battery cubby / back of the air intake assembly. In some 4x4 clubs, having your extra batteries strapped down is a requirement for participation. It makes sense if you are going to do anything extreme: if you roll your rig, there will be flammable liquids spilled, and a battery on the lam is an ignition source waiting to happen. Maybe not as likely under these all-plastic hoods, but certainly under a metal hood (e.g. Jeep).

The battery was snug to begin with, but did have a slight bit of movement. I put a piece of the 3/16 foam around it, cause it to fit REALLY tight in the hole. I added some 1/16" cable around the battery to assist in getting it out if needed. With the radiator snorkel over the battery, I don't think it would come out even if turned over ....... very tight.

found when the under hood plastics gets warm, the battery bay get 'less tight' and in the event of a roll, it's mos def not going to be secure... there's certainly an opportunity here for someone to fab and sell a solid solution.
Personally, I hate a battery that is not rock solid.

(and yes, from the dead)

I used a nylon "cam buckle" strap. Cut off the excess and used hot melt glue to attach the strap to the cavity side walls. Of course I load tested this method of attachment before going with it. To keep the strap under tension, some compressible rubber is used either under the battery or between the battery and what will be mounted above it.

Unlike other brave souls, I would not install a battery without some strong method of "hold down". However unlikely, sxs have been known to "turn turtle". Should that occur, a battery on the loose could easily become a source of ignition for a vehicle fire.

See, you guys with all the neat nicely routed wires with a well planned layout. See what it gets you? Having to plan how to secure your battery.

Yea, see, my technique had safety in mind. I think my rig could do a barrel roll down a hill, plunge off a cliff and that battery would be tangled so tight in the rats nest of wiring that it wouldn't come close to leaving from under the hood. Safety first fellas!
