Curious to what some are using?

My previous 2016 F350 diesel had a titan 50 gallon fuel tank mainly because I had a short bed. It was a huge improvement over the 27 gallon tank when towing the camper.

Now I have a Ram 3500 diesel with a 8’ bed and I’m actually thinking a tank in the bed makes sense this time round.

Kinda have my eye on a RDS tank/toolbox combo.

gravity flow or pump?

I ran the RDS 90 gal tank toolbox combo for over 400K miles and it did great.

I have a rds toolbox/tank combo as well and love it. I just use it as a transfer tank though.

Thanks for the replies.

I like the idea of a gravity flow provided it can flow faster than the motor can consume it. Thinking of using a key on switch to control a valve.

How did you guys know how much was /is in your spare tank?

I picked up an RDS 55 gal tank today, it sits low enough I can use a tonneau cover. My factory tank is only 22 gallons.

Pulled the trigger on a RDS Black transfer tank tool box combo today.

Going to gravity flow the tank using the rds kit, but with a 12v cut off valve installed instead of solely relying on the gravity valve.

Went with the transfer tank as I may want to use it to transfer fuel in the future. I just won’t install the pump and filler hose at this time.

Finally got the tank installed. I decided to use a 12v fuel cut off valve as a measure of redundancy above the gravity feed float valve.

Was painful filling 50gal of fuel into the tank for the first time!

I have an RDS 60gal on my 15’ SD diesel. I have an 8’bed. I had a DeeZee black slim 40 and used a tonneau for the first year and it was pita to keep taking off. Now when hooked to the 5er it was easy of corse. So i got the 60 cuz it was shorter And gave me some longer mileage. My 8’ bed has a 35 gal reg tank. Also i could put on my Diamondback modular cover on and to hide the tank when im not hooked to the 5er. I use the gravity system and use a 12volt solenoid along with the provided ball valve that came with the kit for isolation for service. I have that hooked to one of my factory aux switches on the dash. We recently drove 1,200 miles with the 38’ TH 5er to Disney and i had to stop once for fuel. Pro tip lol, to avoid the painful forever fill up when your main tank is empty, have both tanks filled and the Aux tank open. Your fuel guage on your truck will stay full till your Aux tank is empty then you know your on your main tank and the Aux is empty. Thats what the kit with the check valve is for! We had these on all out Car hauler trucks at Roush and thats how the drivers used them.

I installed my RDS tank tonight, why do you have a filter on the vent tube?

I was wondering the same thing.
Because the vent it outside the truck when the diamondback cover is on so that my bed doesn't smell like diesel. The cover seals the ned well. No water or snow can get in. We started putting those filters on to stop what small amount of water that might get in the vent (Even without a cover) into the tanks. Also any diesel residue that gets in The vent tube dosnt make it past the that point and running down your truck eventually. Cheap to do and effective. Change it every few yrs.

Interesting. I drilled a hole in the bottom of my bed and ran the vent line through it
Forgot that I also raised the vent fitting with a 2" or 3" nipple. Doesn't stick up higher than the toolbox lid and usually no diesel fuel comes out the vent now.

I ran mine up into the forward stake pocket and down between the fender and bed an additional 6” straight down.

That should work. I have a flat bed so down through the bottom I went. Also drilled a hole for my fuel nozzle to go into.

You can try doing your vent downwards, but your creating a sort of vacuum. You really want to go up above the tank in some way. If u look at your stock tank, there all up above the tank. Think smaller to our vent lines on out machines.

Yea you're right. I've had mine for a year and a half. No issues yet. Definitely something to keep an eye on though
