My son is coming over to help to build a rear basket.
Our concern is how to attach it.
We were thinking of a split collar.
Our is it the best to bolt it?
All options would be appreciated

Hose clamps would be real easy .

If I were fabing one I would probably make my cross pieces on the bottom align with the rack bolts and then drill the cross piece holes and just use a longer bolt to go through both.

Welcome to the club and good luck with your fabrication. Btw, pipe insulation or double stick foam tape is good to put between them so you don't get rubbing squeaks.

I put a plywood platform on my rack and just used heavy plastic tie wraps to hold it on. Everything then is attached to the plywood. I used the tie wraps so I could remove it easily and everything then comes off with it. Plywood and original tie wraps have survived 5,000 on my trailer this year so far with another 3,000 miles to come in November.

I went the plywood route too. Nobody would use Velcro clamps. Hose clamps is what was suggested.

Bolts, washers, lock washers and nuts...in six locations right through the flats on the rack. Four of them are in the toolbox.
I used to worry about drilling holes, then realized that I never sell anything.

Yeah, that's what I did with my plywood. And I recommend the plywood too because it is a noise deadener. That's funny, my wife makes fun of me because I don't sell anything.
