For those of you with the P5s is a Bed liner or bed mat nessisary if I plan on using the bed for work? Firewood, stone, dirt etc. I don't really want to spend the coin on the Honda bed liner. I was thinking about getting a cheap mat from TSC and just cutting it to fit in snug to keep dirt and debris out. Any input would be great, I'm picking my P1000 5 deluxe up this month and want to buy the accessories at same time.

Thanks,
Kyle

I think it's a good thing to have. It's not needed but all the debris will get down in the seats.

I'm in the same boat. I dont want to fork out all that $ but I can say it is defiantly needed if you plan to haul lots of debris.
Several have installed stall mats and seemed to server the purpose well.

Mostly fire wood, maybe garden stone or mulch, but i have a trailer I'll tow most of the time. Just need something to protect seats from chain saw, cooler, and other things sliding around in bed when riding. That's what I was thinking a mat because you get that extra grip so things won't slide as easy. Does the bed liner have anything like that or is it just hard plastic?

The bed liner is slick hard plastic.

I too plan to use a 1/2" or so thick rubber mat from TSC and cut it out to fit nicely. Should be fairly simple after you make a card board stencil

The good think about the bed liner is it protects all the hinges and keeps stuff from slipping thru the door jam / corners.IMG 2333 IMG 2334

Spend the money on the bed liner over the bed mat if you are getting the Pk5. It keeps things clean and also makes the whole bed slightly more rigid. You don't need to use the screw fasteners if you don't want and still works great, easy in and out and in the end probably cheaper than some new bed pieces. Had one in my 700-4 and now in the 1000. When I got mine for the 1000 I was a little unhappy with the fit so I layed some sand bags in and put some heat to it, settled down in then. Cold climate, maybe would have been fine next summer if i would have waited. Another thing, I had to cut out the liner where it meets at the D rings a little more to make it fit better, took a 1 5/8" hole saw and rounded out the top of the OEM cutout on both sides.

I bought a 4x6 3/4" horse mat @ Rural King and cut it out to fit my 1000-5. Cuts down on bed noise and rattles too...and it's enough for 2, so you can give the other have to your buddy. $29.99 at my local store. I'll try to get a pic this week

I have the liner. It was the very first thing I added and although a bit expensive, I am very glad I bought it. It protects and keeps the inside like new. I didn't even screw mine in, I just set it in and take it out as I like. Although an alternative mat or homemade liner could work just fine, after having it, I would buy it again. I expect it to last for many years without any maintenance.

thanks for the replies guy, @rubicon05 could you post some pics when you can that will help with this decision, and I wanted to know if the liner had any rubber on it so things wouldn't slide around, sorry for the confusion on that,

Got me thinking about spraying mine with a rubber coating.
Then again things are gonna move if I don't tie them down.

Got mine done today, 3'x4' 1/2" thick stall mat from tractor supply for 19.90. needed it to be about 39" instead of 36", hence the gap towards the rear but not enough to make me buy one of the the huge 6x4 5/8's thick mats they have.

I like that. Very clean install. I'd like to have the liner but that price is ridiculous.

One thing that I like about the liner is there are molded in grooves to put a board in to keep things from moving too far.

Honda website shows MSRP on this liner is $299. The only place on line that I have found it is Amazon and the listed price is $389. Go figure.

I know yall are discussing the P1k -5, but the one piece bed liner is at the top of my list of the best upgrades I have done to my 700-4. The small stuff really gets down in the cracks.
