I added a horse stall mat cut to shape as a bed mat. I've done the same thing in our trucks so that not matter what we haul, within reason, it will not damage the bed. I left out complete coverage in the furthest forward diagonal cutouts. The stall mats come in 4x6 sections so by skipping this area the mat will cover the entire bed and tailgate except about an inch of the tailgate. This also allow to use the tie-down points in the forward portion of the bed. While I like the idea of a hinge at the break between the bed and tailgate I like more there not being seam for crap to get stick into or for a shovel to get hung up so for the time being I will deal with the closing inconvenience.

Did the same thing so the dogs don’t slide around in back. Plus keeps wood chunks out of the rear seatsView attachment 401053
While dropping heavy items in my bed on a regular basis is not on the agenda it's always nice knowing thick rubber matting is protecting the bed. I totally agree with the gravel/dirt/mulch staying out of the corners. We have the crew cab so the seats are not an issue. A buddy of mine reminded me to use contact cement on the front areas to keep them in place instead of screws or bolts so I'll add those this week.

Your looks much better than mine.

I had an old still mat laying around. But I cut mine square then in half so the jump seats can be used independently. Just move the unused mat to the other side. Sorry for the dirty pic. Seems no amount of pressure washing gets mud and blood off these things.

At $110, more expensive than a stall mat from Tractor Supply, but IMO easier to deal with, fits nice, has lips front and sides:

Bed mat
Definitely a good option. The main reason I like using stall mats is I can dump a load of #1 gravel without damage to the bed nor the mat. Granted my Honda does not take the punishment my truck takes but it'll take anything I can dish out without damage.
