A guy on Facebook is saying he had the brgr in his P700. He sais he pulled 32s fine with the gear reduction... Any truth behind it? He said p700 gear is different from the big red.

I'm pretty sure if you look at parts diagrams, the BR and Pion have the same gearing. If anything, might be different in the diffs, but I doubt it...esp considering that BR faced similar complaints about "powering out" as it's come to be called.

Maybe I give it a look see in a bit...

I just looked. They are the same. The rear ends are not interchangeable. He’s full of manure! I’m really starting to hate the Facebook pioneer pages!

FB....i use it to keep up with family, but I'm getting to where i cant stand it. People are stupid and will argue over anything. And will insist that the most ridiculous thing is true.

Wait wait wait.... he just said he changed the ring and pinion out on rear diff and ring out on front diff with p500 gears... I looked it up and it may be possible! That would effectively lower gears... I need someone that knows this stuff to look at it.

I've been thinking this was possible since the 500 landed, but at the time the parts were going to be like $800. Someone on the 500 front diff lock thread had purchased a 700 front diff to try and get the locker, but i think the aftermarket locker came out before he had a chance to see.

I really think the front gearing would get screwed up doing this swap though!

Oh...yeah, you'd have to do both. But...how did the guy go from a "Big Red" gr to 500 r/p? Sounds like he's all over the map.

I'm trying to find who had the 700 front diff...

Can't find who it was.

@Chooglin or @trigger, do you remember who bought the 700 front diff to try and add the locker to the 500 (before the Torque Masters came out)?

I think a friend of his must have done it... I don’t think he did the front though... He also said he ran 32s with no problem, then posted a photo of a 700 on 28s... lol

I think i just saw it on FB. This guy is full of s***. Even with the lower diffs...i don't see it pulling 32's in thick mud (if you manage to get them on the machine without portals).

BTW...you probably saw the differing f/r ratios on the 500? I always thought this was a typo, and i think someone confirmed this.

Anyone with a 500 FSM want to give us ratio's listed?

The front and rear are different according to that parts list I doubt that a typo but I wish it was because that lower of a gear would be nice if it would fit in the housing

OK...it was @JWB who had the 700 diff. @JWB did you ever confirm if the ring/pinion would interchange with the 500?

When we had talked about using a 700 diff. On the 500 , it was to gain a locker for the 500. The plan was to swap the 500 gears over to the 700 diff. And install it in the 500 if I recall.

The locker came out shortly after @JWB bought the 700 diff. So he ditched the idea of doing the swap IIRC !

Read most of that thread last night and I knew that the TM kinda killed it... But he did mention that he still might try it just because it's him... LOL. Haven't seen anything since.

The other thing was using the 500 ring and pinion in the rear, is that the 700 has a speed sensor on the rear diff, while the 500 takes this from the output shaft in the tranny. So I wonder if the tone wheel for the 700 speed sensor is built into the ring and pinion, or is it on the carrier itself?

And then, how does it shift? I mean, does the computer see the reduced speed flip out and go into limp mode?

iv had a 700 and 500 sitting next to each other before i dont think the bearings are the same size to allow the swap. i wish i could find it but someone did a full 700 drivetrain swap on a 500 a arms and all to make it wider. and he said alot of the bearings sizes were off. between the 2.

oh and even if he did put 500 gears into a 700 it would be a taller gear lol
