Hi Guys

Just wanted to share this with you as I had to change out some tires on my P500 and didn't want to pay for a shop to do it.

I picked up a Princess Auto (think Harbour Freight) tire changer that worked a treat!

Let me know if you have any tips on changing tires as I'm still a newbie with this skill! :)

Thanks

Ovo

I have 1 of these and have changed quite a few tires with it. Works better when mounted down and easier with 2 people.

I use the harbor freight one and I'm sure it's paid for itself by now. And like @tjmichael said it is much easier with two people. Good topic @CptOvo.

I ordered one of those shipped to the store. A week after I picked it up,they shipped me another one!

I agree with @Tflynn, it has paid for itself over the past decade just about. I've mounted my own truck tires, wife's suv, in-laws, etc.

Any tips that I may have can best be described in a picture. I'll go down the shop soon and get a pic.

I welded the vertical pole in place instead of threading it on all the time. Then I drilled some holes in the round plate so I drop a bolt thru the hole to keep the tire from spinning. I made some kind of mod to the bead breaker but can't remember why.

I'll go get some pics.

Also, mine is a little different. Maybe because it's older. I Welded the pole in place in the middle and used some bolts as you see pictured.

Here you can see that I had to beef up the bead breaker some. It kept bending.

Over all, it works pretty good. Your tip on the soap is almost a must. If the tire is dry, it's just too hard.

I commented on the video - that is an amazing tool! Thanks so much for taking the time to make the video! I really appreciate it!

For anyone who hasn't seen the video it's an eye opener - for tire related people anyways ;)

Thx

Here it is. And thank you for bringing up the topic.

I carry one in the pioneer for use with my CO2 canister. It should pop a tire back on real quick with that high pressure and no tire valve.

This one I bought recently to carry in the pioneer. I've actually had these for quite some time. I bought these before they were Milton brand. I can't remember the original manufacture but Milton picked it up recently.

I have two tricks to add... one @CptOvo actually did my first one by not having a valve core removal tool, I let the air out completely but I reinstall the core to break the tire off the bead what I've learned is it creates its own pressure just enough so the sidewall doesn't collapse. The second trick is break down the back side of the tire first it's alittle more stubborn because usually the wheel is wider longer on the back side and the first trick helps this along too.

TRICK: buy a pack of very large zip ties. Habor freight has them cheap. They can be reused by releasing them with a small flat blade screwdriver. When you get the bead broke on both sides put zip ties around the tire about every 6 inches pull them tight. The tire can be lifted off the rim by hand. Put the same zip ties on the new tire and just drop the tire over the rim. Remove zip ties and air up! Works great. I have done lots of tires this way. No tools required!!

The more zip ties you use the easier it goes on and off

Breaking the bead has always been the problem for me. On Honda 350,450,650 tires. I usually have to destroy the tire to get them of the rim.

Hawk53: try this. Use your truck and put the edge of tire under the front truck tire leave truck door open hang head out the window and door so that u can see the bike tire good and drive over the edge breaking the bead. I have done that lots of times.

Ya have tried that a couple times with no success. When I am changing out tires the are usually worn out or damaged so I just take anolfa knife to the side walls and cut the steel bead with a zip cut. Should invest in the Honda tire bead breaker I guess.
Thanks for the response.
