We were out cruising some local fire roads today, my wife was driving and bang (again lol) and I hear something dragging. We had a 2" stick jammed up between the gas tank and the piece of plastic in front of the seats. It ripped the floor an inch or so but no other damage other than that.

Are you using a aftermarket skid plate?

unfortunately no I'm not, haven't had the extra cash to spring for one, I've got a few ideas I've been throwing around. The after market skids still leave a rather large opening right behind the front wheels (foot rest area) that bothers me. I want to make something to cover underneath and up behind the front tires and while I'm at, incorporate a battery mount on the driver side for a larger battery.
@swsebek no one hurt, but it did scare the crap out of the wife.

That's why I was asking....you're exactly right about the aftermarket skids. They do leave a gap there. I'm sure that gap is for the tire to turn into but I'd like to see some kind of protection. I don't have the answer right now.

I have seen some wheel wells lined with 0.060 aluminum held in place by the push pin rivets Honda uses. The metal is easy to cut and shape to the contour of the plastic. Usually starts about 3 inches behind the bottom bend turning up an terminating about 12 o'clock in the wheel well. A 24x48 inch piece should be about $25 at the local metal fabrication shop and woul do both wheel wells in front.

I like that idea
