Is it just me or is a tool box / rear rack more practical than the dump bed? I use my Pioneer to haul power saws, gas, and fire wood, but never find myself needing a dump bed.(stacked fire wood)

Just curious what others think. Trying to justify the P500 over the P520.

Yeah I'm not jelly of that dump bed at all, in fact it would be a hindrance for me. An abundant amount of dry storage was my goal with just enough open bed for coolers, muddy straps or the like. It also means more plastic to get scratched up in the tight stuff. A lot of guys complained about it not having one though so it's nice to have the choice.

I had a dump bed for Donkey, it was as handy as a pocket on shirt but it made it tippy for trail riding. It had to set up a bit high to clear the airbox. I ended up selling it to a friend to put on his dad's P5. I would buy a P520 in a minute if I didn't already have the P5 but I'm not about to trade for one either. It is nice to have a choice now.

I use my P500 mostly for property work and have done both. I found a good deal on a golf cart bed, but just attached it to the rack with U bolts so I can easy switch back as the need arises, for serious off roading like @906UP said. The P500 rack is a great foundation for options, thus no desire for the 520 which has a smaller bed than mine. In fact I kept a second bed just incase something happens to the first one. Today’s chore - burn pile.

Approached this with the idea of having open space -- dry storage & carry tools.
Upper aluminum box holds chain saw & acc. & acc. for winch.
Large aluminum box( dry storage ) slides in & Not Under Top box held in with 1 strap over the top & close the tail gate DOESNOT move. ( made it fit snug )
Under top box & behind dry box is a space 24depth 48 wide 19 high

Slide out the dry box & put on Top of the upper box strap down ( if at camp place it on porch ) 20200725 12363920200725 122646quickly gain use of full open bed )
It can be dumped although mostly donot use that feature.

I'm with you all the way on that. I put a boxed rack on top of the rack for most uses, however, if you get game, deer, elk, whatever the rack is the way to go. I guess I prefer the rack because I have options.

the only reason i will want a tilt/dump bed will be for ease of loading a deer( hand crank on top and up it goes ) for other chores and if you know you are going to need to dump your cargo I learned long time ago depending on your cargo if gravel or sand or something else is to lay a tarp before and either tie it to a tree or something and drive away, if is logs or something like that rope or chains under does the trick.

The dump bed on my Rhino was basically set up as an enclosed rack because I have a tractor for chores. Though definitely way better having one for clean up and inspection....

I have posted various modifications to the P500 bed and enjoyed each build. However, I think what would like the new model with bed because of the tilt/access to the engine, etc.

Has anyone taken the aluminum hitch carriers, put 2 of them together to make a 47 x 40in bed by chance? thinking about doing this but was wondering if anyone has already done it so i can see fit before i spend the money.

I don't need a dump bed because I did buy a Strongmade rear rack that I really like. I just wish now I would have paid the extra money for the Strongmade version that has the drop down tailgate. There are many times I wish I had a working tailgate. For instance I don't enjoy lifting my 60cc chainsaw with it's case and many accessories inside of the case into and out of my rack. I'm not really tall so it does take some effort to clear the rack going in and out. Like many others, I'm glad there is a dump bed option now but other than a tailgate I'm happy with my setup for my needs.

Mudder, quick question. when you used the tool box/aluminum cargo rack combo, did you ever see a need for the cargo rack to have a fold down rear gate? im building mine with 2 of these racks and was curious if that was ever something that would be helpful with only an 8" wall. was going to go ahead and Modify with it if that would seem helpful.

A fold down tailgate would be very helpful IMO.

If somebody buys a 520 and does not want the bed...Let me know. If you are close, maybe we can work something out. We miss a dump bed.
