Don't even have my machine yet but 1st oil change is at 100 miles. Will need to change both filters and oil. Honda reccomends Pro Honda GN4 that surprizes me as I figured they would want the synthetic Pro Honda HP4S. Want to have everything ready as 100 miles would only be 1 or 2 rides. Which oil will you be using?

On the 700 I went from HP4 semi synthetic 0w30 to Amsoil 0w40 FULL synthetic and it was a nite and day difference. The HP4S is Hondas newest FULL synthetic oil and is only available in a 10w-30. The biggest difference was startup/warmup time, I leave for work @530am in WI winters. With synthetic I could give it 30 secs and off I go, without synthetic is didnt wanna shift, UNLESS I gave it a good 5 min warmup.

Now the 1000 and 700 are different trannys I dont suspect to have this prob on the 1000, coldest morning has been @20 so far. However I feel the full synthetic will be better for engine on cold morning starts.

I am interested to here about the difference you claim for upgrading to synthetic HP4S. I would welcome any input on the issue. I kept the gn4 stock oil. FORNOW.

I recently upgraded to HP4S from HP4 and was hoping to notice a difference like some people mention. I noticed nothing at all. My next oil change will be back to regular oil and still change it at the recommended intervals.

I will add this note, I did change oil in the differentials and noticed a big improvement in gear noise. I used 75-140 and added Lucas stabilizer.

Give the Amsoil Formula 40 full synthetic UTV oil a try, I mostly stick with Honda oils and started using it @ 1200mi I was suprised that I could tell a difference. Like I said it was the warmup time and shifting smoothness. However i'm gonna try the HP4S in the 1000

I have'nt claimed a difference in the 1000, I am mearly stating the difference I noticed in the 700 when I owned one. I dont expect to notice much difference in the 1000, Is it possible that the 1000 can shift even smoother!!! However, with the option of running non synthetic vs full synthetic i'm going with full synthetic HP4S

Amsoil is what I use in all my stuff and the pioneer will get it to. I went through my first oil change on the 1000 and still put in hp4 but that will only see another 100 miles of break-in and then Amsoil from there on.

I talked to the dealer today and he sugested to use the GN4 the first oil change, that is the break in oil and 1st serivce being at 100 miles engine might not be completely broke in but after that change to the HP4S. Sounded good to me so I will go with that unless I hear different.

I like Mobile one and use the 10-40 motorcycle oil in my P700. It shifts and runs better than when I used Valvoline atv oil. I will do the same when I get my p1000 and switch to it at first service. These bikes are hard on oil as it get beat up in the trannies as well as the engine. Use the best.

I used to be a Mobil 1 person also until I read some of the stories about it on some of the Mustang and Shelby forums. It changed my whole outlook on Mobil 1. You got to go with what works for you though!

I use Rotella t6 in my tractor. A lot of people use it in their cars, atv's, lawn equipment etc. Everyone has an opinion on oil brands but I stick with synthetic whatever the brand over conventional.

I haven't ever personally tried Rotella.

True!! This is why I started using Amsoil and do now in absolutely everything I own. I want the best protection I can have. I don't abuse my stuff but I do use it for what it is made to be used for and sometimes beyond!) But I have tested (sent oil samples to independent testing facilities) the different oils in different equipment at different times. I have a diesel truck (181k on it and shifts/runs like new according to mechanic) that I have done lots of testing on. With Amsoil I change its oil between 15k-20k of hard use....tuned and pulling trailers weekly. My test reports come back registering 0 which means clean and still good. My shop accidentally changed my oil with out my permission and put rotella (still pretty good oil) in. He told me to go 7500 miles with it. I did and tested the oil....oil was still in pretty good shape but showed worse results in most categories than Amsoil did at 15k. I have run it in my sports cars, jeeps and power-sports it has made a difference in all of them but like some elude to....lots may never see the difference due to length of ownership or lack of really pushing things hard. Anyway I get better mpgs and my business (electrical contractor) maintance dollars is going down as I switch my business trucks over. I know I sound like a Amsoil fan boy....but blow/destroy enough things on road and off road and you will start looking hard at what else you can do for protection!!

I think this is semi correct. If my memory serves me correctly, the Mobil 1 for European vehicles is full synthetic but only certain weights.

Mobil 1 is considered a full synthetic even though it is a group III refined crude oil.

Mobil 1 Extended is a group 4 that is a truly man made base.

I don't see any reason foreign cars would need synthetic oil vs American. It's more of a manufactures recommendation instead of location.

For example, if BMW wants to advertise 10,000 miles between oil changes, then they need to require synthetic.

My ford had three different service intervals according to what oil I use and type of use. It's listed in the manual. 5000, 7500, and 10000
