Nice work! We are on the list from the state for a UTV. They are government surplus, nothing like that. The first one they offered was a 2wd mule. We declined as we need a 4x4 for the mud we see during fire season. Hoping something decent roles around. I'd like to buy one that would be ours, but not in the card.

This is our rescue truck just above the extrication equipment. The truck is an 07 with 8000 miles on it. The box is from 1974. A new box is 70,200 not including any lighting or removing the old box and mounting a new one. I have duct tape over it till we figure out what we are gonna do.View attachment 418902there is no excuse that any US fire ,police, should be using equipment like that, shame on the state/ feds

Final monitor is installed. Our rescue truck had another hole pop up. Gorilla tape to the rescue.

Having to patch holes with tape sucks. Not sure how long that gorilla tape will hold up but next time get some eternabond tape. It’s made for RV roofs. It will stick to about anything and lasts a very long time. It has done very well on my camper roof. Comes in different widths and lengths

I am hoping we are going to get rid of this truck after wildland season.

What if I told you its not even the worst truck in the fleet? The far right brush truck in the above picture broke down twice and caught fire once last year. The year before we had a transmission cooler issue and was down a week during our fire season.

Our 1990 tender has no working gauges, air pressure takes 8-10 minutes to build, tank has a slight leak, no direct fill into the tank, no air conditioning, and sketchy wiring. Sometimes the transmission wont shift. It was a dump truck before it was converted for firefighting in 2003. FEMA told me I was close to getting a new one last go around just wasn't quite old enough when it came time to pass out money. They cut the budget to the Assistance to Firefighter's Grant by $32.4 million this year, and I expect next year it will get even smaller. Vehicle grants are so competitive you have a roughly 2% chance of pulling one.
