Got my new pioneer friday. The dealer said Honda wants first service to be done at dealership they change oil and check the whole machine. Approx 500 dollars. What's your thoughts?

$500 isn’t bad, I still prefer to do the work myself though. Now if you have a good reputable shop that you really trust I’d say go for it. I think a lot of dealers never check the valves, they just listen to them.

That’s exactly what mine cost. They said they had to adjust the valves and change the break in oil.

Went to my dealer for the first service just because.
They charged me $280 for everything and I thought that that was high!

If they have too adjusted valves good price but most of the time they just look and don't adjusted so it should cost around 300.

After taxes, mine would've been around $350-375 but I talked them into a 1/2 off coupon for the first service when I bought it, so it was less that $200. $500 seems extremely high.

Congrats on the new ride !
I don't remember the exact amount seems like around $300 or so 2 or 3 years ago but they do quite a bit on the first service. It was worth it to me. They wanted to do the first service and then after that it didn't really matter to them. Dan Powers Motorsports is my dealer. No complaints.

They have the best prices on new units, on the internet, in my area. Obviously, I’ll be doing my own wrenching when the pass runs out though.

I'm not sure what I'll do yet. The service manager said out of all the 1000s they sell only a few didn't need valve's adjusted. I ain't even got to ride it yes so I got some time to decide.

Dealers take advantage of people. There is no way that the first service should cost more than $125 to $175 and still a good margin. They shouldn’t be replacing anything but oil and a filter. Why not offer their service at a fair price to get you back in the showroom... Failed business 101 or never attended a class is more like it. I bought the extended warranty and not even a smile before they get you.... SMDH

Kalispell, MT dealership was similar with $700+ expected cost on first service...caused me to purchase elsewhere. Just like ripping people off with excessive charges on extended warranty...it's buyer beware. I asked around at multiple dealers & they were all significantly less...my first was less than $300 which sounds in line with most.
