I want to add an anchor point (or 2) to the front bumper to attach a shackle for towing, recovery and strapping to the trailer.

I’ve got it narrowed down to three options.

1 Add tow hooks
I like the simplicity of the hooks. Nothin fancy and cheap.

2 Bolt on shackle mounts
I got a quote from a local welding shop to get a set of shackle mounts powder coated and like this look the best. I could probably spray paint them but not sure how long it would last. I’ve read some reviews saying the bumper where these attach is prone to bending under heavy load. These will be used to pull the SxS out of snow drifts/mud/etc and assist getting trucks unstuck so it needs to be solid.

3 Bolt on a front receiver hitch and add a shackle receiver
This appears to be the foolproof route and possibly the most durable.

Sorry if I poached a pic of your ride. Let me know what experience you have with each. Any input is welcome. Thanks!

Have had both, the cheap large D rings on a stock bumper and currently the removable clevis type in your middle pic on an LE bumper that is essentially the same as the base stock bumper with ears on it. To be honest with you, anything on those bumpers are 90% for looks and very lite and I mean very Lite pulling. They can and will rip out of that bumper like a stump from a heavy winch. Mine are bolted and welded on the inside. Ive used them to Pull very lite things, like a dead snowmobile in neutral off a trailer and thats max. You can see both in my build.

You need to be pulling on the frame. The bumper is attached to the frame with 4 little bolts, any force is going to bend and fold stuff.
At first glance it looks like those lower hooks are on the frame. I’d go with that, mounted with a couple of 3/8” bolts.
Pulling from a low point will tend to lift the front end out of the mud. Pulling from up high will compress the suspension and push the wheels deeper in the mud.

I've winched off mine to recover myself snatch-blocked as well as others more times than I can count. Been on there for almost 3 years with no issue. I've got a piece of 1/8" thick steel on the back side where the D-Rings mount.

I have 2 shackles mounted to my front bumper with 1/8" steel backing plates and grade 8 hardware. Have been good so far but I havent used them to winch myself out yet. They are powder coated and seem to be holding up well.

I did a version similar to post #7, but instead of a backing plate, I used some 2x2x3/16 angle iron bolted to the bumper frame mount. Then you can add shackles or just a simple eye bolt Good luck with whichever method you use

I cut holes in face bar and slide square bar through to bumper mount and welded both to that and face. Torn that bumper up over the years and it’s now been on multiple Pioneers but that is still holding up

Darn it, guys! I am trying to shorten my to-do list. Not lengthen it.

This isn’t helping. ;)

(adds another mod to the list)

I went with the front receiver hitch as I was worried about the bumper strength. Bent my bumper first time out getting pulled out of some mud.

Hi. please clarify: Do you mean that happened after you installed the front rec. hitch? i'm trying to understand what happened and why. I have the rec. hitch and have self rescued many times with no issues, but definitely want to understand your experience.

thanks!

Happened before the hitch and winch were installed.
