My wife gave me the go ahead on an action camera for Fathers Day coming up. Now that the 8 is out, what’s everyone’s verdict on the best one? The 8 is cheaper right now but I really like the overlays on the 30 with the stats.

I vote Virb. The data logging is what does it for me.

I have to agree. If I could do it over I’d go with a Virb for the overlays. If GoPro doesn’t have them when it is upgrade time for me then I’m definitely switching brands to Virb.

fwiw: Virb Edit is free software and can be used with the GoPro - BUT, the telemetry is in the camera. If the overlays you like don't need the Garmin telemetry, you can still use the Virb Edit software.

I might have to look into that.

I have the 7 and my next one will be the Virb for the telemetry overlay. On the GoPro you can get the mph if your are using the app.

Just bought a used Virb Ultra 30 on eBay out of Virginia. Those things are kinda hard to find unless you buy the $500 aviation package.

Garmin’s you can get a plug and hard wire it into your rig, so your charging it while you use it with the key on

I have had good luck out of the Samsung Micro SD's. I have one in a Nintendo Switch, one in a tablet, and one in my Virb. I had one corrupt on me in the Virb, but Amazon replaced it without issue. I also have a 128GB of the same card.

I use a GoPro stick-on mount on my lower windshield with the USB cable tucked under the windshield, and run to my 12V accessory plug/USB adapter.

Don't mind the water... it was a minor booboo

I was looking for a place to mount a video camera on my SATV windshield but it was wagging crazily. Your mount, right next to the ROPS clamp might work for me too. 👍
