The E4OD’s with a beefier torque converter weren’t good. The E4OD was ok, just not great for our Powerstrokes. We had our driveline shops beef them up when they went bad. I had 2 in my 95’ 1 was a motorcraft reman and the other was the same but with a bigger converter and tuned to different shift patterns
We really never had many E40D problems other than where the wiring harness went into the MLP sensor would either break or chafe the wires going into the sensor. The manual 5 speeds were pretty much trouble free other than clutches. Now the 6 speed manual in 99's and up had a lot of dual mass flywheel problems. LUK made a kit to replace with a solid flywheel and we would have the machine shop to bore out the pilot hole to fit a sealed ball bearing in place of the needle style pilot bearing. The input shaft on a 6 speed is a whole lot heavier than the 5 speed and after replacing the flywheel and installing the larger ball bearing we saw a lot less problems particularly in instances where the clutch was depressed quite a bit.

my side work project this weekend on hold. Going to run up and give a hand to our friends at the treehouse. Thier machine is having transmission issues and nothing has helped so far. They use the machine for daily life a lot so it’s pretty important. 1 beer before we make the 3.5 hour trek into the woods. Gunna be a late start one

Well I’m really not sure what’s going on with it but I’m not afraid to tear a Pioneer apart lol. Hopefully we’ll get it going. I’ll rob mine of parts if needed
