My heavy duty leather motorcycle gloves wore out. These heavy duty leather welding gloves will work great in the winter especially when we stop to do trail work. I have been using the 5 mil gloves to change oil for about 20 years. The heavier duty 9 mil gloves will be great for shop work. Its important to protect your hands especially when doing oil changes. You have to be careful when going to Harbor Freight to buy something for $10.00 and end up spending $100.00.

I agree that you will want the 9mil in HF for mechanical work. I've tried the 5 mil and it tears too easily. Would be good for oil changes, though.

I usually use the Members Mark (Sam's club) blue ones. 400 for $16 bucks, but no thickness is listed. They seem about right for me, as I don't like them too thick. Loose feel, and makes my hands hurt.

Tested the welding gloves today and they are great. Temp was in the 40's and at 50 mph they will keep your hands warm. The guys are buying them too. They are easy to put on and the big long cuff works great.

I have tried at least 10 different brand and thickness of gloves over the years. I ordered a couple boxes of these and I have been VERY pleased.
I use these when we do work on hydraulic valves and when setting carbon motor and generator brushes.
