I just replaced my toasty starter in my 2015 500. Out and back in and running in under 30 minutes. Done through the drivers side ahead of the rear wheel.
Thanks to all who posted previously on this issue. Got the starter in Ebay for $41 and change. A pic of the old starter is attached.

Thanks ehart814 for the original post. Starter failed when attempting to get going after feeding-out hay to cattle .... finally got it back to the shed, and have ordered a replacement .... starter had been failing intermittently for some months, so I had been warned! Had exactly the same problem with my old TRX300

So anyone who bought the cheap $40 starter... how's it holding up? I see you can spend upwards of $300 from the dealer.
Also appears the cheap ones have a different set up where the lead connects, like from a different direction. Is the lead long enough to attach at a different angle? Thanks

Same thing happened to me....started just stopped about 2-3 weeks ago. But now after replacing it, it starts & runs, but the paddle shifters don't work? Any ideas?
I would first check because these units are sensitive to the correct amount of voltage to work properly.

Went to move her this morning for new garage door install. Barely turned over then wouldn't at all. Voltage looks good on 2 yr old battery on maintainer. No opinions on factory vs aftermarket? Just checked dealer website. FYI needed VIN#. Came up $307.69
Called and couldn't get live person, leave a message and we'll get back to you. Checked, closed on Wed.🙄

I'd still like to know of experiences with Amazon starter at $49.

Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?

I installed a Royal distributing starter.fits perfectly and no problem except it turns out the problem is in the ignition switch and it has had me baffled for a while .changing it over the winter.starter was around 100 bucks

Went to dealer. Not in stock. They wanted $338.00 to order one. Thanks but no thanks. Ordered two from Amazon (caltec or caltrec) $41.00 each. Could have bought 8 for the price of one oem motor.
@PJ1 did you check Ron Ayers website for a price on the starter? Create an account and put it in your basket (#nohomo) to see the discounted price.

Hi Todd just took a look. Thanks for the link. I'm confused with the 4 different model numbers especially when I don't see mine. I clicked on one of them and got a price of $220. which would be good. My model is SXS500M2F. Not shown

Changed the faulty starter today. Removed rear wheel for access. Took about 30 minutes in all. Don't forget to disconnect negative battery cable before hand.

Aftermarket a little different where the lead attaches. Just have to stretch it a bit to make the new angle.

Started right up like new and I have one on the shelf. Very happy camper.

My $41 starter had that issue. I removed the nut that came on the starter terminal and reoriented the plastic guide to match the factory starter and reinstalled the nut.

Might be but when trouble shooting start with the easiest first. These little batteries don't last forever so I'd check the starter battery first. 9 out of 10 times that's the problem.
