On my Pioneer, the rear tires are 29's and the front are 27's. So for those of you that carry a spare what do you carry, a 27 or 29? Or have you changed to the same size tires and wheels on all 4 positions?

Curious minds want to know...

Something doesn't sound right... the tire height should be the same but the width might be different.

If the front tire is 27" and the rear is 29", did you happen to buy this Pioneer used?

Can you send pictures?

Definately DO NOT recommend running different diameter tires front and rear on a 4 WD vehicle. On hardpack etc. and really be pushing the front end trying to keep up with the rear and bad for the driveline stress. AS others noted better to run 28" all the way around and just use a matching spare. MY opinion of dragging one along is just carrying a 50 lbs boat anchor full time un needed, bettter to keep a few plugs, & sidewall Slug with a small air compressor to deal with trail side issues them swap spare tire back at the trailer.

OK I'm a dumb ass... They are both 27's with different widths. It's hell to be old. So if I get a spare would you go with the narrow one?

I mostly and usually,
agree with @JACKAL and his experiences. Thanks!

Wife and I on this trip in Wyo., got out about 55 miles by ourselves (because we're from Wyoming) and I popped the sidewall out of my left rear Bighorns, climbing out of this rock canyon below.
It was beyond plug and slug repair. I carry a 2 way radio, so we weren't in trouble. We used the boat anchor and gas can on the ass end, that day. Since then, replaced all 5 with 28x10x14.
To each...
Edit.. wagon trains carved out this Oregon trail in the rocks btw..

I sometimes carry a spare and sometimes not, depends. If I’m on my own, definitely.

I carry the front tire cause it can be used on the rear. I have a base model that I upgraded with some factory take offs. So the old steel rim front is my spare. All ways carry some plugs and a simple air pump regardless.

Even if you don’t carry a spare on the rig, at least have it on the trailer or back at camp. Likely would save a weekend ride vs looking in town for a tire.

Glad we got this figured out. People do dumb things when they sell stuff and I wanted to make sure you weren’t a victim of someone else’s stupidity.

Its a loaded question cuz everyone has different set ups so your asking individually and its gonna blow your mind 🤯
Also, this is part of the imfumus tire question of what size and type that can be found in the search. Here is my individual answer. All 4 same size all the way around and be done with it then u dont have to ask the question about a spare. Work smarter not harder!
