Is there any difference, upgrades, changes etc. or are they basically the same machine?

They are basically the same machine, the new one is labelled 520 because the engine is slightly bigger giving more torque and horsepower, 2020 and earlier are labelled 500, but they only have a 475cc engine.

Hi,

This has been covered many times, but here is the quick and dirty to start you off:

  1. Larger engine with more power, but still uses the same filters and maintenance schedule
  2. Dump bed instead of the cargo rack
  3. Slight changes to the transmission, especially from the gearing on the 2015 500.
  4. roll over protection bars are slightly different
  5. Air box and exhaust is different
That will get things started. I'm fairly new to the Pioneer 500/520 party so others will jump in.

Thanks too bad. I think the hardest part of the decision would be finding a P500 or a P520. Pretty scarce right now.

2015-current P500 has a 475cc engine
2021 P520 has a 518cc engine (2mm larger bore), otherwise the engine/trans is the same
2015-2016 are manual shift only (paddles) and will run 42mph, speed limited by RPM & MPH
2017-current P500/P520 have auto shift option, slightly taller 1st gear but a lower top speed overall (I've heard anywhere from 38-40mph), the final drive in the trans uses different gears also but the ratio is very close to the pre-'17s
The increased bore on the P520 is a carryover from the 2020 Foreman atv line, slight hp increase (1.2hp is the number I've heard), the main reason for the change was cleaner emissions according to the articles I've seen.

For either model the engine & drivetrain is based on a design that's been in production since...... 2005 or 2006 if I remember correctly.

  2. Other Brand
We got a brand new 520. For the most part they are the same machine. Except for the dump bed. The nice part of brand new is that you know what has been done to it. Brand new you know how it was treated and what mods you do to it. Used will always give you a second guess. Are the after market mods done well? Is the electrical up to par? Has it been run half way under swamp water? Has it been ran hard in the desert and overheated? Did someone move heavy trailers of wood with it?. New gives the pieces of mind that you know how it has been treated. Also 500/520 I think the resale value in the next 5 to 10 years will be more for the dump bed models

There are some new ones scattered around some dealers. However I’ve seen a lot of them on fb marketplace recently.
