I have the prices listed in the first post
Basically $72.00 and $82.00 for the needed gears
Then you can replace all or none of your gaskets at your discretion.
I would say the skill level needed would compare to being able to replace a head gasket? Maybe a little earlier?

91361-HL4-003 does not come up in a parts search. I think it may have been changed to 91361-HL4-A01. Is that the one?

First off, - thank you to all that put the energy in to documenting maintenance steps!
This forum continues to be my best source for support on how to take care of this machine.

I'm about to join this party and get my hands in to the sub trans as my low gear is blown out and feeling the effects on reverse also,
I'm also not able to locate any info on 91361-HL4-003
has it in fact been replaced with 91361-HL4-A01?

So why are the parts so hard to find, is this a common failure?

Anyway, the parts are hard to find because manufacturing was shut down for so long. And yeah, it is one of the most common failures I've been reading about with the Pioneers, mostly due to misuse (people not going to full stop and idle before shifting into low or reverse.)

Yeah, I had the wrong parts and once I figured it out the post was irrelevant.

I was thinking these were the unique Talon parts but they are not the ones.
23751-HL4-000 shifter Low/Reverse $55.02
23650-HL4-000 Low gear $109.68

The below are the key Talon parts and they are different gearing.
23691-HL6-A00 reverse 25 tooth gear $82.84
23701-HL6-A00 reverse 16/22 tooth gear $72.80

Well, for what it's worth, I did verify that you were wrong. :D

That would've been big news if they changed the Pioneer gears.

Yeah, think I was more hopeful but was wondering why no one could get the parts as RMATV has them in stock 🤣. That’s what I get for rushing in.

I am 100% guilty on this one. Many hours of moving material with many shifts from reverse too low...
All my parts arrived, now just waiting for some dry days to start tearing down the machine.

Hopefully Honda is working on a fix as it's a large problem including the Talon.
I agree that there should be an engineering solution to this.

Yes, I know that people "shouldn't" do this and "shouldn't" do that. But they do. That's the challenge for engineers, to mitigate what could go wrong.

The only reason I was so "in tune" with how I "should" use my Pioneer is because I bought mine used with the reverse already shot. So I dug into the reading to find out why.

Full stop and idle between reverse and drive isn't something people practice every day with their car or truck.

If my memory serves me right, Honda was slow getting parts out to fix the smoked clutches right before they released the clutch hub update and am hoping they are working on a fix for reverse as my local dealer is waiting on parts for units in there shop.
It's totally stupid that they don't engage the shift collar deeper into the gear so the adjustment isn't so critical.

Even having taken mine apart and rebuilding R and L myself, I can't quite envision exactly what you're talking about GPR. But you are talking about the adjustment of the P-R-N-H-L shifter, under the hood, right?

When you look at mine, it appears the damage was done well into the depth of the cogs. That's why I'm failing to grasp the "deeper into the gear" remark. These look like they were beat up all the way down. New gear posted also for comparison...

Just dropped mine off at dealer for Talon lower reverse and replacement of reverse while they are in there. Will advise if gearing lowering is worth it. Hope the roughly 20% reduction feels better when backing up a hill. Will let you know as soon as I get it back and put a few miles on it. Eric in Reno, NV

P15KDave my gear was only rounded off on the outside half unlike your picture where they are totally trashed.
Post 9 has a picture of it.
I am installing a new shift cable because mine has some slop in it and even though it was centered in neutral you need to go past reverse to get to engage properly.

For anyone considering this mod, parts availability has been limited. I ordered everything from my local honda dealer on June 5 to replace low gear (worn dogs) and upgrade reverse to the talon gear while I have it apart. Six weeks later I'm still waiting on part # 23701-HL6-A00. It is scheduled to arrive in California on 7/28, then has to ship to my dealer...

I received part#23691-HL6-A00 today. Everything else came in around two weeks after ordering.
Where are they made?

Yes. All parts were in boxes from Japan. Really good quality.
