Had some time this weekend so I bought some angle brackets from HomeDepot and modified/powder coated them so tailgate now lays flat. Also built a bed extender so my cooler will fit in the back. The extender is not 100% done, but close.

Also, attaching securely to the bed would be interesting to see.I like the extender. It looks simple. There is no welding, so anyone can assemble it.
Of course there is the issue of how to bend it.
Welcome to the forum.
Basically just drilled 1 new mounting hole and 1 hole for the cable to attach to (location where the tailgate would lay flat). then I used a grinder to round the ends off. Hope this helps? Will you elaborate on how you modified the angle brackets?

@Scooterchris don't rub it in, you are skilled!! Ha, Ha!! Those look great. I like both the holes giving options. At times having a little lift on the tailgate will keep some things more secure. Thanks for sharing!
I have a JD2 bender for the tubing.....I bought it years ago to build a four seat cage for my rhino. Expensive investment, but has paid for itself over the years.@slimshaney Welcome to the club. Nice looking mods.
How does one go about bending square tubing?
No problem when shutting the tailgate? To get my tailgate flat I just used a couple of these...
National Hardware 3153BC 1/4 Cold Shut, Zinc - For Life Out Here
2$ and 10 minutes, lays flat perfectly.
