I am replacing rear brakes on my 700-4. I’ve never done this so I have a question. The brake pads I bought do not have that stud on the back like the oem pads do and they didn’t come with that plate that snaps on the back of the brake pad. Do I need to take the plate off the original brake pad and put it on the new brake pad? Also, is it an issue that the pad doesn’t have that stud on the back of it? I have already put them on and drove it around the yard and it stops fine but it hit after I was done that I didn’t put that plate on there 🤦🏻‍♂️

This is dirt bike and dual sport information but I believe it's the same. We were always reminding the guys to transfer those plates.

If you look closely at that plate, you'll see it's two layers, one stainless and another an insulating fiber. That insulation keeps heat from transferring into the brake fluid. If you're gentle on the brakes, it doesn't matter but if you use them hard, you want that insulator installed.

I have no clue about the stud unless it helps locate the plates.

I know the stud keeps the piston from turning. If it turns too much maybe it could keep too much pressure on the pads? Then you have too much heat, wear out pads quicker and maybe warp the rotor. I'd put the plates back in
