I have around 1800 miles on my stock tires (so you know what they look like) and Its time for me to think about replacing them. My '15 700/4 has no lift (and I don't want one) and I ride on a little of everything, not really into mud, but snow and clear cut land/ logging roads are not out of the question either. I've been looking at 27-11-12 rear, 27-9-12 front tusk terrabites or 26-9-12 f,26-11-12 r sedona rip saws. The rip saws are 6 ply radial and the terrabites are 8 ply radial. Obviously the 8 plys are going to have more puncture resistance but are they going to ride rough? I have read that I can get away with a 27" tire on a stock 700 so I guess thats not an problem, I just need some input from you guys to help w me make a decision on what you would do.
TIA Ben

I have owned the Ripsaws and they are impressive! Never had a flat and if they can find something to grab onto you will not get stuck! Now just purchased the tusk in a 28" for the 1000 because of the 8 ply and they are a radial dot approved tire. Tested today on ice and snow and they did not appear to have the traction of the Bighorns!
Here is a pic of the Terrabite...

You got it figured out.Go with your gut feeling. I would stay away from the 8 ply.

Had to put tubes in the bighorns after about 500 miles due to flats:( but they are only 4 ply thought about the 6 ply but read good reviews on tusk terrabite tires.

I bought a set of Kanati Mongrels and I'm very impressed with the ride and traction out of them. My stocks were wore out at 1000 miles. The mongrels have 800 on them and no sign of wear. I went with a 27 and also bought itp black rims the same width all the way around so I can rotate them. They are a dot approved radial.

@Eltobgi would you have any picture of the ripsaws installled? I looked at he bighorns and I know millions of people love them but I wanted to see more coverage of the carcass by lugs and I had concerns with them on side hills with siding more so. But thanks for the input @swsebek

Im running Bear Claw HTR's. Its a 8ply radial. I went with a 27" tire and 12" wheel to help with the stifness. I dont think they ride any rougher than stock and the peace of mind of an 8ply is nice. So far they have been a good tire

I've only had my 700 for a few months. My old Rhino 660 had ITP Mudlights and did fine except for the occasional high center. My stock tires are working fine for me, but I wanted to get some better tires and wheels. I ordered some new Kenda Bear Claws on ITP aluminum rims. Now, I'm waiting for them to show up via the little brown truck of happiness.

I ride mostly in the woods, on trails, and through shallow mud. I hope the K299's work out. Kind of wishing I'd paid the difference for the HTR's. How do the Big Horns do in mud? I'm not talking about really bad mud, but just clay and topsoil mixed and about 6" deep. Anything more soupy than that, and I'm going around. The tallest hills we have are 15 - 20' with shallow grades or 4 -5' with steep grades. Downed trees are a possibility, but rocks are softball size to pea gravel.

I threw a couple of the stock size Kenda Bear Claw 299's on the front of my 700 a while back. They look pretty good and 6 ply and about 106 dollars for 2.

On the 27 in question for Allgm1 I put a set of Rage Storms 4-27x9x12 and ITP Black steel rims 4-7 5x2 offset on my 500 and I like them. I put a couple pics down in 500 forum and I will put them on the 700 too and run them.

Tires came in yesterday before noon, I took everything to Tire Warehouse and let them have the honors of swapping the over. We took a ride today, whats left of the 14' snow we got last week had melted some and froze again as did all the water on the trail. The trails were also all rutted up from lasts weekends riders.

I went with 26x10's in front (26x11 rears)

20170321 172002 zpsi9ryufz5

It was in the mid 20's with 40 mph winds, anything that got splashed up froze on contact

I can't really say how what I thought about the performance of the tires, the conditions today would have been the same with any most any tires.
