Just stumbled across this forum while searching for tires for my Pioneer and figured I'd join.... I've got a 2018 1000-5 base model, didn't want to spend the extra money on buying anything fancy seeing as I use it 90% of the time on my small ranch, it gets used daily and has been a life saver.....
Couple questions I do have are
1. Is the first major service (Valve adjustment) really needed to be done by Honda or is it easy enough to tackle at home...

2. Does anybody else's crank over slower, mine has seemed to from day one...

Glad that you found us. Best source of Honda Pioneer info anywhere along with a bunch of yahoo's that have "been there and done that" and most of them have even lived to tell about it!!!!

Now as to the valve adjusting. I have over 1000 miles on mine ( a '16 - 1000-3 eps model) and the valves haven't been adjusted yet. The slow cranking issue is likely a bad from the factory, battery. Unfortunately, as long as it will start your rig, most dealers ( and Honda ) don't want to warranty them.

Join in the conversation.
ENJOY!!!!!

Welcome aboard! If you are reasonably handy, I would go ahead and check the valves. To do it, I would get a service manual and diver in...

Welcome...3500 miles and nothing but gas and oil changes. Cranking speed has always seemed slower than I'm use to...

Thank you all for the replies, I’ll continue to change the oil , possibly swap the battery out and take it in for the recalls... This damn thing gets used a lot, just like this weekend when 4 of my cows decided they wanted to push the fence over and roam to the neighbors house....

I think my 2016 has a little over 2300 miles with No valve adjustment and just keeps running like a timex watch.

Think the maintenance manual say's adjust valves when they get noisey.
