Not the ignition switch. I let it sit in the shop and went to start it and dead battery. Definitely have a parasitic drain somewhere. Next step is checking ground connections. The saga continues…

Have you used a volt meter to check for an actual drain?

I will recheck later this morning. My latest idea is a number of members said the after market winch the PO installed may be the culprit so I removed the ACC fuse to see if that circuit is the issue. I wasn’t at the farm all day yesterday and I intentionally didn’t plug into the trickle charger to see what would happen and when I got there yesterday evening she fired right up. I will need to have a work day where I’m using it throughout the day and see if it eventually dies like it’s done before.

Latest update is the same issue. It started up initially, took a drive and then nothing. Jump started it right up and took it back to the barn. I took off the main grounding wire connecting to the frame, cleaned up the connection and screwed it back down.

To recap here is what I know
- New Duracell AGM battery - tested good
- Battery charging at 14.4 volts when running so the stator appears to be working
- New RMstatic MOSFET Voltage Regulator
- New ignition switch
- Disconnected the ignition power connection to the after market winch
- Removed the ACC fuse thinking this maybe connected to the winch but I don’t know it is.

Have not tracked each ground connection yet. Any other ideas why the battery gets so drained?

Thanks for any help. I feel like I’m running out of options other than to take it to an overpriced dealer to track down.

well that sucks -

u have a multimeter with ammeter function - to go between negative cable and negative post and start pulling one fuse at a time

also - unless that stator is rung out - can’t rule that out

Could be a rubbed wire, etc……

I do have a multimeter with ammeter so I will pull fuses to see what circuit it is.

For the stator how can it be a possible issue if it is running 14.4 volts when running and when I tested all 3 phases when I pulled the voltage regulator plug and had continuity for each of them.

If I can’t find the issue with the ammeter then I will waive surrender and will send it in. I give and update

Good luck - just thinking either charging or draw issue - seen stranger stuff in my life when stuff gets warm - for me - ringing out the stator to prove it ain’t grounded or shorted. Is a 5 minute check after the hour to find it and get it apart - lol 😂

Thanks for the update

I’m at the barn with my multimeter, YouTube’d how to check for parasitic draw and have none! I turned on the ignition to see if my multimeter was reading and it lit up like a Christmas tree. Now yesterday afternoon I did disconnect the main ground at the frame and cleaned the connection and made sure it was tight. Nothing seemed loose or too crusty before but who knows.

I just tested the battery at 13.2 volts after being on the trickle charger and started it up and battery reads 14.4 volts when running.

At this point if it dies again I get to pay a dealership to figure it out. I think I’ve exhausted every avenue. Maybe this is God teaching me patience and perseverance which I need both!

I guess I can just replace the stator. The shop is $150/hr plus all the hauling and waiting to get it back

How long did you leave your meter on the battery while running? Keep it on there for 5-10 minutes and keep an eye on the voltage. See if the voltage drops while running

Latest update… it was sitting most of today and I had to drop a load of brush on the burn pile and let it run for 10 mins. Checked the voltage and it was charging at 14.52 volts.

So far so good? But I’ve been down this road thinking I must have found the issue this time only to have it come back. I’ll update the forum as I get more experience with it.

I’m afraid I will jinx it but I think the issue is solved! The Honda sat in the barn until this evening and I used it to clear some brush and started and stopped it maybe 8 times and it started up great each time.

If this does fix it, the issue was a bad ground on the frame of the Pioneer located on the passenger side in front of the rear wheel. I took that screw out, cleaned all of the wire connections and screwed it tight back.

Now I need to figure out what is the best wire and connector to reconnect the ignition power to the winch

Thanks for everyone’s help. I learned a lot! And saved and expensive trip to the dealership.
