P500 Original Bighorn 26" - Too much?

Hi All-

I just picked up my 2015 Pioneer 500 today!

I had requested Bighorn 2.0 26x9R12 fronts and Bighorn 2.0 26x11R12 Rears.

However, my dealer ordered original Bighorn 26x9R12 front and 26x12R12 rears.

I had ordered the 2.0's due to the lighter weight-- I figure the P500 isn't overpowered as it is- the less HP robbing rotational mass the better.

However, I understand the originals have thicker and slightly longer lugs- which would be great...

They do look great on the P500-- although the rear looks a bit fat-- but cool.

Question: Do you think the original Bighorns are too much at 26" diameter? Does any one run them at this size?

Is it worth asking the dealer to swap? I may end up preferring the extra bite of the originals.

I would stay with the original. I've go the same size 2.0 on my 700. I really like them. But would prefer the original due to being a tougher carcass.

My speculation you will be fine either way, based on specs of both models. U can play with tire width to save on weight. Never tried originals, but run 2.0 now and no problems , so far 100 miles of mixed rocky terrain. If the price right and you want save weight and still like originals for their dipper lugs then buy 9" wide across 4 and you would save about 12 lbs and get extra as spare.
I've got 9" front and 11" back , depends how much flotation you need, some guys got 11" all over for swampy areas.

I prefer the originals vs 2.0's.
Begin able to control the gear on the 500... I think you will be just fine.

I would also prefer the tougher tire as I'm not a speed junkie. I do however abuse the tires and don't want a flat. I run 8 ply on a 700 and would love the 6 ply on a 500. I thin it's better that you got the heavier tire. Some people are running 28" tires.

I'm leaning towards keeping the originals. I can always wear them out and try something else next, right?

I'm already going to ask to switch the roof. The Moose roof ended up not working with the vented hardcoat windshield I got... and I really like the windshield. With the Moose roof there's a gap in the middle, and then way too much pressure on the edges where the roof tabs meet the flip-part of the windshield. I'm going to get the Honda hard roof instead.

I finally got a chance to ride with all the goodies on. The tires bite really well, but it does tend to bog a bit on a slightly uphill field run. We will see how they hold up....

Running25 inch bighorn originals--love them.

I am running 26-9-12 & 26-12-12 original Bighorns. No noticed power loss. Traction & ride are awesome.

I switched from the stock 12 X 24 tires to original Bighorns in 14 X 26. Just got back from a 2 week hunting trip in Colorado. Spent most of our time from 9,800ft to 12,000ft. I made this trip 3 times last fall and once this June with the stock tires. I couldn't tell any difference in power between the two. We had 2 big snow storms, big for a guy from Arkansas anyway. The tires did great in the snow. Ran through a lot of snow up to 12 inches on the roads. Cleaned out very well, never had a problem with spinning out. Did great in the mud, too, when the snow thawed at lower elevations. Never used my winch the whole trip.
