Hello, been following the page for probably a year now but my first time posting. Does anyone know what to do to make a p1000 legal for roads in Ohio. I know it will need a windshield, turn signals, horn, DOT approved tires, but what I don’t know is how to get it approved once all that is done. No one seems to know if I need to get it inspected or anything like that. If anyone has any insight I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

Very very easy to do in Ohio.
Read dps 1373 very form carefully.
All you need to be street legal in Ohio is turn signals, one rear viewing mirror and a windshield.
No horn, no DOT tires.
Are you on fb? I typed out the process in the Honda Pioneer of Ohio group. 3 or 4 other members followed my instruction and successfully got street plates.

You need any police officer in Ohio to sign off on the inspection form. All you need to do is call dispatch and ask to have an officer do the inspection. Depending on your city, some are asses about it, saying they can't do it etc. Not worth fighting them, call a smaller police department close to you.

If you need any more help, please reply or send me a PM and I will help you.

At the bottom of the DPS 1373 it says this vehicle good for roadways of 35mph or less. Or does that only apply to under speed vehicles and not utility vehicles? As I am taking our UTVs are utility vehicles.

I don't recall what they changed my body code to. It was an ATV, but could be a Utility Vehicle or Mini Truck now. I want to say truck, when I renewed my plates a few weeks back, she kept referring to it as a truck.

Every county has its own rules on where you can and cannot drive them. Here in Lake and Ashtabula county, I have been fine driving 95% of the streets. I stay off the interstate and route 2 and haven't been bothered at all. I have heard the state police like to write tickets for side by sides driving on specific roads in Ashtabula county, but I haven't tried running down those streets with car plates.

They changed my body type to SW. Station wagon. The police officer that did my insurrection told me not to drive it to work when he did the inspection. He called me 6 months later looking for info because the city I work in just passed an ordinance allowing golf carts and under speed vehicles. He wanted to see what happened with mine after the inspection. He couldn't believe that they made it a station wagon. Lol

He also told me that my plate and registration basically allows me to drive on any streets or in any cities I want to. I did go all the way with manual wipers, license plate light and DOT tires for road use.

Be careful with the station wagon designation if you are in a county with emission testing. Once yours is 4 years old and needs to be tested for renewal, it might cause you to have to get another body code change. If it is a station wagon, it should have zero speed restrictions on it, which in theory should let you run the interstate with it.

Fortunately, we do not have emissions testing. I'm staying off interstates. It's too squirrelly at those speeds. Lol. I also don't want highway patrol attention.

There is a RZR or Maverick running around up here with street plates. They supposedly have driven it right now I90 to the casino, right around 40 minutes from where we are in Lake County. That just takes balls.

Make sure you have everything that is on the checklist. Then have it inspected as a UTV section on the form. Take that and the title to title agency and then the title to the BMV. The computer assigned mine the body type sw. I had to have Honda send the title to the title agency and they called me when they received it. It was sent back to Honda financial after the change.

Hopefully that helps.

Feel free to ask your questions here. I'd rather answer the questions here for better resources in the future.

Here is a copy/paste of my post in the Ohio Pioneer riders facebook group.

Ladies & Gents, for those interested in obtaining car plates for their pioneer, hit up google and fill out form DPS1373. Install and verify you have the proper equipment installed
Brakes (factory installed)
Brake Lights (factory installed)
Headlights (factory installed)
Tail lights (factory installed)
tires (factory installed)
steering mechanism (factory installed)

Basically you are responsible for the following
windshield
rearview mirror (either outboard rear facing, or interior rearview mirror, err on the side of caution and try to install all 3)
Warning devices/reflectors (turn signals)

If you guys want a list of parts I used and pictures of them installed, I can try to snap some pictures.

Final step is find a police department willing to complete the inspection. You will probably have better luck in rural departments, officers that are accustomed to seeing these on the street with OHV plates.Should be as easy as a phone call to your local dispatch and ask for a vehicle inspection. I would not specify what type of vehicle unless they really want to know. Tell them it is a mini truck. Basically an inspection for a body code change.

If you do not have the title for your vehicle, you will need to request the lien holder send it to your local title office. This is a long process. Honda sent mine 3 times before the office accepted it and knew what I wanted to do. Your title office will probably just look at the inspection report. If you happen to fake it, I doubt anyone will be the wiser.

Utility. With the back seats folded down, you have a utility vehicle for inspection. Top speed is too high for under speed vehicle.

The Talon has a bed, so I would think it would be the same.

I work for Upper Arlington. I will hopefully be retired in 5 years.
