I talked with WE customer service, and they said the thrushing sound is normal for this shock. They said what we are hearing is the indeed the fluid flowing through the needle valve. I had these set at a fairly light compression. I'll crank it up and see what happens. While I understand others having an issue with it, I'm not too concerned. I have yet to worry about fixing the rattles from the dump bed. Where I ride you can usually here machines coming for a very long time, no matter how quiet or slow they are. Like I said earlier, I don't notice it when I'm driving it, so it doesn't bother me.
Yeah I can see how the sound might be annoying but I also think bottoming out is VERY annoying

Hello men and @Delton! Time to fire this back up.

We got time to compare shocks today. It wasn't a perfect test as my vehicle is top heavy and @snuffnwhisky is bad ass. The 3-seater doesn't have much done to it and has the anti sway bar. But we still have the same vehicle, same tire size and similar wheel base.

I'll start with the pics first.

We pulled up on this stump and almost tumbled the white one. He was down hill with the back tire in a hole.

Joey could have been a dick and pushed me over! Lol. He did hold the cage while I got out though.

Next up is the redneck RTI. Our measurements were goofy as the red one was last on the ramp and the tractor bucket must have leaked down some. You'll see the measurements at the bottom of the page and see the red one went up the RTI further but the same height from the ground. So in short, both vehicles performed the same on the ramp.

Below are the measurements from the rti ramp. First number is the distance up the ramp. Second is the distance of lower ball joint to the ground.

55.5 28 snuff

47.5 24 stock

Up next is some vids of the Elka's thru a little whoop in the field. We hit it at 30 mph each time. Snuff will have to explain more about the adjustments he was making. Each video is the same speed and by the last one, he had it dialed in better.

Here's the stock 3-seater with ASB still installed.

Notice it bounces twice and the tires come off the ground the second time. That's not good if you're trying to stay on a trail at high speed on a turn. Or climb a hill and maintain traction.

This next test didn't turn out like we wanted. Who knows, maybe one day Elka will want revenge on the walker Evans and send snuff back out here. If that happens, we will set up a better rumble strip. We should have used 4x4 posts. The fire wood was soaked up by the tires it seemed. I'll let snuff give the ride impression over the rumble strip. He drove all three vehicles.

Btw way, all tires had 12 psi for this test.

The only thing noticed on the rumble strip is the vibration of the body on the stock vehicle. The vibrations would equal a harsh ride felt by the occupants.

Ok, so now is the time snuff and I can share our "feelings".

I've had several hours to let it soak in and think about how it felt to drive both vehicles.

This review is subjective and based purely on feelings....my vehicle seems loose entering turns at high speed and makes you cautious. I'm sure that due to the higher CG vs snuff's. I really don't think it's loose, it just leans too much and I think I should slow down. After driving the Elka equipped pioneer, I felt like I was invincible entering the turns because that vehicle is so stable. It's stable because he's got the custom cage which is a lot lower, No windshield, no roof, no rear panel, no stereo up high like me, no over head gun rack, etc. however, after coming in hot on a choppy turn, I wish I HAD entered slow. It seems to skid sideways like the tires were not staying planted.

Over all, I think I drove the Elka version faster because I felt confident going into a turn but the walker Evans rode better and felt more confident after I left the turn.

If I ever chop my cage or snuff gets those Elka's dialed in, we will have a pretty good setup!

Both of these shocks killed the stockers. The oem shocks rebound hard and sometime rebound twice over one bump. They can't be pushed hard and expected to stay calm.

I'll get a full review tomorrow. Appreciate @joeymt33 letting me come and raise hell tearing up his grass! Nothing like drag racing on a back street then hitting jumps at 40 mph many times!

All the testing (nice), all the comments, but ya'll left out the main question.... ..Do you think those shocks will allow you to get over larger rocks or through deeper mud? Is the improvement worth the huge price?.well?o_O

They actually will help a lot. I can tune the vehicle for high speed cornering when needed, or crank up the lift before riding at a place that's rutted out. As for climbing rocks, I do see a nice improvement because the front can be tuned soft and absorb the impact of a large rock and not throw the vehicle around.

I though it was pretty cool the other when I added about an inch of lift to the back so that it rides level when loaded with all the crap I carry on the trails. I was able to set the compression also and the vehicle handles great.

Just think how fast you could ride the mountain roads with your vehicle lowered and stiffer.

Well young fella you should be a politician. You never really answered the question.. Is the cost justifiable? For my applications it wouldn't be but if someone is trying to turn their Pioneer into a RZR it might be.

I can't just make a blanket statement that says the cost is justified for everyone. Everyone's needs are different, everyone's financial situation is different, and some people are more content with what Honda provides stock. Heck, I haven't been willing yet to spend that kind of money on shocks but I'm sure it will happen this year. What's really going to hurt is when I have to send these back and then I'll really be wanting to up grade.

I just try to do a service for the community and provide as much information as I can so that other members can make an informed decision.
