My Pioneer stopped running this weekend. Just shut off like no fuel.
Checked all fuses and relays, pulled and checked fuel pump, pulled connections at ECU and found corrosion.
I cleaned all that up and filled with dielectric silicone. Started and ran.
Next day took off on ride and quit again after 2.8 miles. Would not start, it didn't have any spark.
Took to dealer out of town, after checking out they determined the stator is bad.
I didn't get extended warranty. He said Honda might give some goodwill warranty if I take it to my local dealer. Book calls for 6.5 hours labor. Trying to decide to take it there or just do it myself and be done. I have another ride for July 4th weekend.

Man that's a bummer. Do you ride in water a lot, or anything extreme?? Do you have a ton of electrical accessories?

Not sure what is required, can you get the engine cover off without pulling the engine? Did you check connections to stator to see if corroded as well? Seems unlikely it would go bad this quick.

I have been in water, but nothing extreme, mostly crossing creeks. I don't set out to go thru water, like I did when I had the Rubicon!
I did not check the stator connections, the Honda dealer did that part.
I will say Corbin KY Honda dealer is very good. They got me in on Friday afternoon to try and get me going. They checked ECU, rectifier regulator, fuel pressure and then the stator. It showed shorted to ground.

Forgot one. I have one 20" LED light bar, winch and a CB radio, thats all.
I bought December 29th 2014 I think.
I think the hours are 300 something and it has a little over 1,500 miles.
Is this a first for the P500?

I wouldn't think you'd overload the stator with those accessories.

I'm quite sure this is the first stator failure I've heard of...

The book says that Americans get 12 AH batteries while the Canadians get 16 AH batteries. I bought mine in Ft. Smith Arkansas and yet it has a 16 AH battery OEM!!?? But I did add a 36 AH dual and have no issues with more accessories than you have hambone.

Maybe my story can help?

I had dual yellow top optimas on a Ford Explorer and one time I left something on and drained both batteries. (I didn't use an isolator). Someone jumped me off and I left for a 6 hour drive. Well, I almost reached the end of my drive when my battery warning light came on. Long story short, the alternator burnt itself up pumping out its max amps for however long it took to charge two full size batteries. I put another alternator in it and it never failed after that. It was summertime so we were running AC for front and rear passengers. So maybe the extra load of AC, charging two batts, and summertime heat killed it.

Have less than I did on my Rubicon. 6,500 miles no issues on that.
Well it wasn't fuel injected.

Well shoot, that stinks. I hope that Honda and the dealer treat you right, and you get this issue resolved without it hurting too bad. Good luck, and please do post the outcome of this.

6.5 hrs to swap out a stator? That is ridiculous. For comparison, to swap stator on a normal 4cyl street bike would be less than an hour if you took your time.

I guess it takes three hours to remove everything to get to it.

Well where are you located??? ;)
I'm assuming it is on the rear of the engine on these? I've started pulling stuff just to clean, I don't want to get charged to clean.
I think I am going to just do it myself, I've been a diesel mechanic forever, just not used to little things!

If running a big light bar or several accessories will cause this. Heard it many times. My buddy put a 21" light bar on his rhino. Stator went in several weeks. He since added two battery set up with isolator

Light bar is the problem most likely

I am going to not agree. A 20" LED light bar is less amps than factory center light on Foreman or Rubicon. Unless you are saying the P5 has a smaller stator than quad.
Just my opinion, anyone else?

Yeah, a 20" light bar is probably around 3 - 5 amps. The Honda accessory circuit handles 15 amps IIRC. I can't see that light bar causing the problem by itself.
