Just picked up today. Drove it 20 miles total so far. Stopped by my local upholstery shop to see about a cover for the machine. Noticed when I left. A oil spot in his driveway. It’s definitely coming from the engine. Seems like it’s coming from high up on the engine. From what I can see. I checked the quantity and it’s in the middle of the cross hatch. But, it’s a definite leak. Headed back to the dealer. Other than that. 1st impression is great. It definitely takes the small bumps smoother than my old 2015 p500. Big bumps are still rough. No complaints on the automatic transmission. Reading other posts. I was expecting shifts that were harsh and at the wrong time. I’m not noticing that at all. It’s been perfect! On a flat road , or up or down steep hills. It also starts instantly with no hesitation. I’m surprised on the oil leak, because it’s a Honda. I’ll report back the findings.

That's a new one. I'm sure they will get you fixed up. I bought a 500 in early 16 and it ended up getting a leak at the front differential. There were a few that did this. It was a very simple fix. I believe an o-ring was not properly installed when it was assembled. They fixed it up no problem and I never had another issue.

That is unusual, are you sure the dealer just didn't spill it all over or over fill it?
No, it was clean as a whistle when I picked it up. I’m going to remove this access panel after breakfast to see if I can see the top better. The leak looks like it’s high and running down. It’s definitely not the front or real differential. I’m also going to follow the manual on checking proper oil level. Maybe they over serviced it? Not sure.. But it does say not to screw the dipstick back in for the level check.

Welcome from Central N.Y

BUMMER on the leak - Good You Spotted Before Major damage.
Patience will prevail.

Red is the 1st. Color - All other colors followed hopping to Cling onto some of the Glory - ( Honda hopes they sell )

Yes, that is correct about the dipstick.

I am not familiar with that engine but, I certainly would check the oil level and the breather, before I let a dealer get involved.

Found it!!! You can see this electrical harness not seated correctly in the engine case halves. R/H side on top of the engine case below the throttle body.(I’m pointing to it with a long screwdriver in the 1st picture). It was exactly 1 qt low on oil after 20 miles of driving. I would say the oil is splashing out when the machine is hitting bumps. Because with it idling I don’t see it pouring out oil. On another unrelated quality control note. This wire harness looks like it’s supposed to go under the seat pan covers.
I’ll take it back to the dealer and see what Honda wants to do.

That is very un-Honda like.

So, do you try to get that seal back in there with dull screwdriver or do you split the casing?

Thats for the stator wiring, most likely the flywheel behind that cover is slinging oil as it spins and blowing it right out of the hole.

Its stuff like this we dont think to look for, but we'll definitely keep an eye out for this from now on.

Seriously, what is up with honda now? I've been reading more and more about issues with 500, now 520, 700 and alot on 1000s. Total honda person, however, it's all starting to make me wonder? I get it, we are all honda folks, but man, I can see why folks are trying different brands.

Its been this way the last 8-10 yrs or so with alot of things, production, trades etc. Its not just Honda. Cheap labor as one, people going to fast and 1/2 the time giving 0 Fucx’s about how they do there jobs. Its generation thing imo. I deal with it every day in my trade it sucks and it worries me.

Forums always show 75% of the time the negatives cuz people are looking for answers as they should be cuz thats what were here for. So it highlights all issues.

As for the OP, glad you found the problem. Now just needs to get fixed so u can get back out there and ride 🤟

Couple that with production lines being hammered due to the Scamdemic and its been a rough year for sure.

That rubber seal gets sealant so it needs to be cleaned up real good and the case may need to be removed to do it right. That area will seep oil with the miles, usually at 5,000 miles or more. All of my Pioneers and Talons seep oil there so I just clean it up a every oil change.

My 700 oozed a bit from there from the start (although it was properly seated). I did the trailer park fix by lifting the edges and adding a bit of RTV. Not worth pulling the cover for unless it returns.
Come to think of it, my old 450S would also seep just enough to hold dust from the stator wiring.
