Don't laugh. My father was raised in Aztec, NM (just over the border from Durango). His dad had a tomato cannery and they used to go over Wolf Creek Pass to the San Luis Valley around Alamosa to haul tomatoes back to Aztec. They did this before that pass was paved and using a Model T pickup. He used to tells stories about having to back over portions of it, presumably to get better traction.

How was the Pole Creek crossing on the east side of Stoney Pass? I've been across that when it was butt-puckering high and fast.

Steve
It was quite low. But, there’s a memorial to a woman that died doing it last spring....☹️

I recall that happening. A real shame.

When I last crossed it in 1985 it was early in the summer and the snowmelt was really in full swing. Went across in a 1984 Nissan King Cab 4x4 and just about floated away.

Hmmm...think I've heard stories about backing model "T's" before. Was it because reverse was lower geared and would pull where 1st wouldn't? Kinda like a 700...

Here’s what I have so far off my phone. I guess I lost my Apple camera adapter so I’ll have to get home before I can get the ones from my dslr.
