@Hondasxs may want to add the image you posted elsewhere at the bottom of the original post. Will help easily confused people (like me) as a reference of which drain plug drains which item, Engine, DCT, or Sub-transmission.

Very useful information, thanks. I have a question, hope someone can enlighten my concerns. My new 1000-5 , when running down the road in auto, when it shifts gears there is also a kind of clunking noise coming from underneath in the rear? Please tell me this is normal.

Normal. You will hear the shift solenoid "clunk" just before it shifts to new gear.

My shift solenoids seem to quieten down as I get more miles on the machine (at ~275 now). They also seem to quieten down once the machine is warmed up.

Oh Thank God, i heard the clunking noise on the trail and was afraid i would have to walk home....
glad to know it's normal.
maybe mother-honda should put another yellow sticker on the machine alerting riders to the noise, they got a sticker for everything else !

@dweezil Welcome to the club. Congrats on your P1K, they do shift with authority and it is noticeable at first, as stated about it either quiets down some with break in or you just get used to it. I only had 60 mile son mine until last weekend where we put about 100 mile son it un and down hills doing a lot of shifting. I think once you get accustomed to it being normal you don't even think to pay attention to it.

Feel free to share some pictures of your ride and adventures.

Excuse my ignorance, but is 75-90 gear oil ok where it calls for 80? I already own many quarts Amsoil severe gear for my Chevy truck. Sure it's fine for the 1000 but always like to make sure :)))

Are there any other options for brake pads besides the honda brake pads? They wear very fast and they are very expensive...

Good question, how much are they to replace? I have 360 miles on my P 1000 D and my rears squeal when brakes applied.
