Buddy of mine showed me his side-by-side with his homemade roof and I was amazed

Today I start trying to copy what he did.
Basically is a fleece blanket of your pick stretched out over top your buggy using 2 x 4‘s as weight reinforcing the sidewalls of the top of the roof fiberglass matting. You need to make struts somehow support the underneath with either pieces of wood or whatever you can find to give it strength whenever you apply the fiberglass resin found it any auto parts store.

Today is the first night I am trying to get this project started I will post pictures as I progress with this roof build

Just make sure that you staple down fleece blanket two 2 x 4’s and add weight if needed to stretch it out over top of your buggy

Possibilities are endless with that process once you figure it out.
I'd definitely do as Dubfab suggested the weights will help stretch it out plus hold it taut when you add the weight of the resin.
I'd be tempted to add in some wood furring strips on the bottom to mold in for added strength. Could even build in some stereo/speaker pods, a wire channel and on and on....

So this is a spur of the moment weekend project that may stretch into the week project

Ya know add weight so that the edges of roll bar and fleece are uniform and will make an easy cut on finished custom project
So the original roof is just a mold?

Yea u would stretch it to mold to ur roof contour
Advise that u put down plastic over top just in case it seeps thru
I would just get a hold of Walter and have him make graphics for the roof, less weight, you know float like a butter fly, sting like a bee!

I’m going to use this “mesh” around the outside edges of the roll bar for when you hit trees or whatever

So the original roof is just a mold?

The fleece blanket will become the roof once it's saturated with the resin and cures.
I've never molded anything this large, mainly speaker enclosures etc

Edit to add that if I'm understanding correctly, he's stretching the fleece over the bare ROPS then applying resin to make a DIY roof

So it was hard spreading the resin using a paint brush I did use a can of auto parts .8 gallon can with harder included so went thick on the outside edges it looks sloppy but I made sure I had enough fleece material to reach down and around the roll bar so once it’s finished I can cut to fit.

My plan now it to have garage heated over night
Once the fleece is hard I’ll lightly sand and apply another coat
Hopefully it will spread a lot easier tomorrow

Final coat will be HERCULINER
