I believe that sound is the brakes too. It went away at About 1500 miles and every once in a while is comes back on them long descends.
It drove me nuts at first
Everyone asking if that’s normal.
I dont know but it makes me uncomfortable thinking it could let go coming off those steep hills in Wva.

Is this what yall are talking about??
I don't ever recall my 2014, 700 being like this.
This is a 2018. And it's bad.

Im working on this one for my aunt who's wanting to sell it..

Just took the pads off and inspected.
They looked good. Even wear, still almost 100%.
Rotor does not look warped, of course it's not perfect.
Diff Is full and clean. I will be replacing with higher weight.

Idk... it's bad.
No buyer is going to accept that as "normal".

Thats for sure what mine is doing
It's a consequence of sending braking force through the diff and axles and the tiny amounts of play in them. Sets up a rapid slip/grip cycle that sounds terrible, but it's the nature of the machine.
BTW, the machine in that video had around 8900 miles when I sold it, and my current machine has around 2600. Both had/have always done this.

The 500 has a virtually identical rear diff except for gearing, and under some situations, will do the same thing, but the lighter weight, gearing, and different weight transfer characteristics mean it doesn't do it nearly as often or as loudly.

Thst damn noise is going to cost some $ trying to sell this thing for my aunt.

Should I order a new rotor and pads and see if it helps?

Can't hurt to do pads, but I dont know if a rotor is worth doing. Maybe hit it with a scotch Brite pad?

Or some.of that 240 gear oil?

I sanded the rotor while it was spinning for a good bit on both sides.
I also flat sanded the pads.

I have a set of cheap pads on order.

Ya rotor change will be a PITA.

I now think it is the pinion inside the diff.
Maybe loose/ bad bearing. Not shimed correctly. Or something.

Video below it happens about 30MPH up on the jack. Sounds like it is in the pinion gear

New brake pads did not help.

I change to 75w-140 full synthetic and it did help but did not eliminate it.

I am now done with it.
Will work it out with the potential buyer.
Sold As Is!

I have a 2021 pioneer 700-2 . I started having the same rear brake grinding noise not long after it was brand new. The dealer told me to bring it in to check it out. I noticed that after I sprayed off the bike including underneath where the rear brake is that it wouldn't make the grinding noise while the brakes were wet. After they dried after 4 or 5 stops , the grinding came back. I took it apart and the pads are brand new with no rocks in there. Has anybody tried to use a different material pad like ceramic or etc. Anybody have any luck? Thank you

Yep, same noise as you tube video. This noise is not going to be helping my deer hunting. Deer take off in all directions when I stop. This is my first honda , after having 3 horrible Polaris side x sides
