P1000 Rear knuckle bushing replacement.

I've been feeling and hearing some noise from the rear suspension area for some time. I'm sure it's because my 2000 miles are mostly rough terrain mixed with mud and 30" tires.

I thought I'd share my experience with replacing the rear knuckle bushings.

First I ordered these pieces: 4 needed per knuckle.

I just went through mine couple days ago. Guess I better check these bushings out too. I was wishing there was more things to check on this thing. Thanks Joey!! {sarcasm}

I was not able to punch out the original bushings. I used a small Dremel and cutter bit to cut the bushings and then easily remove them.



Cool thing about this job was how easy it was. I only had to remove the wheel.

Here is the new busing next to the 2000 mile bushing. It is obviously worn thin on one side.


I had one surprise... the metal collar was also worn so I ordered those as well and I'm still waiting for the parts to arrive. I'll take it back apart and replace that collar later when those parts get here.

Here is the new seal next to the original seal. The original seal doesn't even have a lip anymore.

After I installed new bushings and seals, the rear knuckles were very tight even with using the worn collars. I packed as much grease in them when reinstalling in hopes that the next set will last more than 2000 miles. In the near future I will look at adding some zerk fittings to the rear knuckles so I can pump grease in them after every ride.

Sometimes those bushings are a pain to remove. Another option for removal on a through hole like that is threading a pipe tap into the bushing and tapping it out from the other side with a punch. Thanks for the photos

Good job Joey and thanks for all the pictures. Great idea on adding the grease zerks. I don't know why over the years all the manufacturers think we don't need zerks. I think they just want us to come to their shop to pay them for repairs/replacement.

Keep check on those tie rod end nuts too. My driver's side was loose again.

My tie rod was loose from the factory, but not since. Just checked bushings and all was good. Keep riding!

I just had mine all apart to do the lift at 2047 miles, everything was nice and tight. Only noise I have I've had since I swamped it at 420 miles is a whine in the rear somewhere at steady speed, accelerate or decelerate and it goes away.

A friend of mine told me to pop the covers off sealed bearing and add grease, I thought he was crazy, sure enough, I did on the next bearing replacement and found very little grease in the sealed bearing, sooooo!

I did my rear knuckle bushings at about 8,000 miles. I really like the bushing setup compared to other utv's. I also like that the only a-arm bushings that require service is the front uppers that I did at 11,500miles and they really weren't that bad. Has anyone ever had an issue with rear or front lower bushings?
