When on the trail. You really do not want the hitch sticking out and I have no plains to carry it with me.
So....
If its not there, where are you guys hooking up to when pulling from the rear?

For a light tug I will hook to the main frame. But for a hard jerk I don't think this point should be used.
Thanks.

Re: Rear tow points.

I have seen some guys putting a d ring through the rear hitch pin hole. That seems like it would work pretty well and not get hung up on anything.

Ya. That's about cheap enough. but I don't want to extend it at all. Im getting stuck as it is because the ass end digs in.

But something like this may have to do.

@Racer, not a bad idea. I'll look into it.
Thanks.

Re: Rear tow points.

Could always put the hitch pin through the end of a winch strap and lay the strap in the rear area.

I made one out of square tube and pipe. It 45's up as soon as it comes out of the receiver. I didn't put a hook on mine I just made it to throw a strap over. I'll post a pic soon as I can, hopefully tonight if I remember when I get home.

Re: Rear tow points.

Pics of the tow hitch I made. I've already pulled out a YJ and a Cherokee...both within about 15 minutes of each other haha. The Cherokee was stuck pretty bad and the YJ just had his spare tire hung on a bank.

It's made out of 2" square tube and 1 1/2" pipe which measures about 1 7/8" O.D. I think. 1/4" plate for the top and 45° cover plate. Couldn't promise anything by Christmas but I could make a few if interested...make me an offer.

Re: Rear tow points.

Thats a neat looking idea.I've done something very close to that, used the 2" sq tubing cut the end at a 45 degree and drilled a 5/8" hole and put a trailer ball in the hole. This way I use it to hook on and tow my trailer around plus use it as a tow point.

That's a good idea slowdryrider. I could weld a nut inside the pipe then drill the plate so it would act as a raised hitch and a snatch point.

Made an observation today when I pulled my tow hitch out to take some measurements. It was completely full of mud! If you have an open tube hitch of any kind I'd keep an eye on it or cap it off. I'm going to weld a plate on the end of mine and any future ones I make. Btw I'll have one just like mine to sell in a few days if anybody is interested.
