I'd say just go with your heart and buy the Ranger. Sounds like your mind has been made up and there's no sense agonizing over it.

FWIW, I have a later 2016 built P5, and with the very few improvements ie. seat heat kit, the 2017 under dash air diverter and dealer installed head pipe insulation...heat is no longer an issue for US, and the way we use the machine.

Everyone has different needs, but our 2016 P51k fits OUR needs just fine. Would we purchase one again? Absolutely!

I have the comfort kit upgrade. tell me more about the divertor and head pipe. My Gf has a medical condition that is worsened by heat. I would be fine like it is but we havent been trail riding since this came about so any help would be good for her.

Can you elaborate on the under dash air diverter? I guess I missed them memo on that one? I have a 16 and I am curious.

Well, this is odd...

I just stumbled across this thread while looking for something else. In my two years on this forum I thought I'd heard of every P100 recall issue, but I have never seen this one.

I have an '18 1000-5, guess I need to check my VIN to see if it applies. Can I look at my muffler and tell whether it was done? If not, I wonder if it's something they'd still take care of.

Look behind the plastic muffler cover, if there are 2 metal shields then its had the recall done.

Its a recall so they have to do it untill their Ll done.

Ok, thanks. No one ever seems to mention this recall beyond this thread.

If you bought your 18 after April of 2018, it should have been done at the factory or prior to sale to you.

I got it used, so I don't know when it was bought. I'll just have to take a look when I get it out this Spring.

I do have some metal plates behind the plastic. Right ones?

I can't imagine they went straight from muffler to plastic (?)

There should be two peiece of metal between the muffler and plastic.

Honda orignally had just 1, and if the engine misfired alot it would overheat the muffler and melt the plastic shield.

It would also melt during extended periods of higher engine speed. I melted mine within 200 miles
