The biggest concern for me would be raising the cog. If you aren't in hill climbs or off camber stuff that wouldn't matter so much to you.

COG=Center of gravity

The higher you have weight the more tendency they have to tip.

Gotcha. You can always throw stuff in a tote and strap it to the roof for a trial run on your favorite trail if you wanted to be sure before you invest time in making it right.

I would think fabricating the rack to bolt up as you are thinking would work fine though. Might cut a piece of old inner tube to throw between your mounting tabs and the cage so you don't rub paint. (I'm assuming you are bolting it up because you want to be able to remove it at times.) You will probably need to get longer bolts anyway so another few mm's won't hurt anything.

yeah but not big stuff. i have a small pit in a carrying bag be nice to put it up there to keep mud off of it. or my jumper cables. and a small tool kit. stuff like that. im thinking 50 lbs would be max load out including the rack weight.

My local buddy built this. Don’t seem to have any real good pics but at least for basic idea. He built it separated so can take the back ROPS section out.
