This week we were sent patent drawings that at first glance could be passed off as the Pioneer 500. But taking a closer look you can see that is not the case. Within these documents you will find a design we have not see from Honda...
Could it be the rumored Pioneer Sport?

You will find many features buyers are demanding. One feature that will grab your attention is the transfer case. This feature could provide the low range range that has become somewhat standard net neglected by Honda. You will also notice a center console sitting between two bucket seats that sit much lower then the Pioneer 700 or 500.
Looking at the steering wheel, you will notice tilt steering capability. The shift levers seem to be set up much like the Pioneer 700 with R,D,N and 4x4 with diff lock.
Bring such a machine to the market with a 900+ class motor could put Honda back in the competing line of off-road machines.
Before you run off to sell your current machine, it must be said that the above is only speculation. Though all have our fingers crossed, thre has not been any indication this model will come to market.

I like what you've presented, as for me I would like see a sport Honda on the competition line. I watch a lot of utv racing and it's disappointing to not see a Honda represented. Even in amateur stock class racing you can't seriously enter a Pioneer 500 or 700 and compete with the other manufacturers to win. I can't race anymore but I would like to see team Honda and Honda Owners entering in UTV races around the country I might even get excited enough to sponsor a team but not to lose. Winning is not everything but I'd have to know I got a realistic chance to win with decent equipment and hard work. This may be step in the right direction.

I think it looks like a single cylinder as well... but I'm only basing that on the exhaust manifold in the diagram. Perhaps i'm missing something...

I hope it's at least the 700 motor, the 500 with 28hp will be a deal breaker for me.

Well I've been looking at other bikes on the floor and the ctx700 twin only has 1 exhaust port.
47hp I think that would work. I really doubt it will be anywhere near 900cc.
One thing's for sure the announcement is coming at the end of Feb

But look at the competition right now in the 500cc sport market. Not a whole lot. If they come out with a machine using their 450 engines paired to a tranny like in the P500 they would have a smoking race setup. Paddle shifters on the 450 sport type engine would flat out snap! Then Honda would be able to get a foothold enough to develop reliable parts for the bigger, heavier machines with real world data on aggressive use with their design.

If you're referring to a crf450 based motor I don't think it will handle 1000lbs too good.
Plus that's not a centrifical type tranny to begin with. That combo would not work IMO

It's just a matter of engineering right. Heck, making parts fit together that weren't originally designed is a staple in the 4x4 world. Who better to blend a solid race motor to a sweet tranny setup than the originating company? Point being I bet Honda can come out with a good 500 entry into the sport market. Don't count em out yet. Let's wait till they release in February to be disappointed. lol.

Chance. Word is Honda has scheduled a "Redline" event. The RedLine is Honda's dealer communication channel.
