This can dump is near the old line shack I stop at often. I've just been assuming it was beans or something like that, but I finally took the time to pick up a can lid...and surprise...

When I think of Union carbide, a naturally think of batteries and dead Indians. But also some type of chemicals. What was this? Blasting powder? It's probably a good mile or so from the florence-lead and silver mine, so why would it be down here?

Our lower camp next to Soldier Creek. I parked my motorhome nearby above this location. My class C motorhome would have made it down here, but never would have made it back out.

This is the site of a former Army outpost from the mid 1800's known as the Alpine Guard Station. It has been restored by volunteers from the local area and can be rented.

I think the rough green stone is jade. Jade is common in south-western jewelry. I think Indians (native American) and Mexicans use polished jade in jewelry.
