f*** AZ weathermen!

High of 54 with a chance of rain today. So I opted not to head out, as getting wet at that temp would be VERY uncomfortable. Made the decision last night and decided to do some "recon" for staging. Turned off the alarm.

So the day was almost completely sunny with ZERO signs of any rain. Would have been a great day to ride. I've been here long enough to ignore the weather. Sometimes I need a refresher.

Anyway, here's Some snow up on Pinal mountain...

DG, sorry you missed out on a ride. Our group is going out tomorrow. Should be a little chilly in the morning, but mid 60’s in the afternoon. Hope I can get some good pic’s.

Trail guides, which are mostly aimed at Jeep owners, rate this trail as moderate. There are two reasons for this; one is what one YouTube guy refered to as a "world-class shelf road to rival anything in Colorado".

Certainly, it's an intimidating section, but it only lasts about a hundred yards. I don't know if I'd have the guts to take anything bigger than a jeep through this. Sxs' are a non issue until a few years from now when they get as big as hummers. There are other sections that are also shelf road like, but they're not nearly as narrow, and not quite as cliffhanging, though there wouldn't be room to pass another vehicle.

The other is a steep section, which I came down about 15 minutes ago, and quite frankly I'm actually a little disappointed, as is nowhere near as steep as it's made out to be. Yes it's a decent grade but nothing that would stop you short of having snow on it.

Now off to the rest of the trail...

The trail drops down into O'Carroll canyon heading to the east side. It was spectacular and rugged (though not the trail itself). So much so that I didn't take any pics of it :D

Along the way...

Watch your step...

Surprised the was no fencing around that one. It had standing water in the bottom.

I love finding these old corrals...

The trail was fun, but it's on what I'd call a trail "island" in that there is no "out" on any of the side trails. To get to another area, you go back out to the main road and head off somewhere. For that reason, I probably won't do it very often.

There is one trail that I didn't do that heads off to the north, but I've poured over GE looking at this area, and it appears to run out after a bit, and whomever ran the mining that has takes place on the west side of the trail pushed up mounds to keep people out (though people have been going over them). The Dripping springs area is definitely one is like to explore further, though.

One famous landmark on this trail is the infamous "tree house" that incorporated some trees into its construction...

DG, love all of the photos you post. I know that you ride solo most of the time, but after my last venture on Charouleau Gap I’ve decided that going out with a group works better for the trails that I like. That being said, it’s hard to stop for photos as frequently as I’d like. Keep up the good work.
