@DG Rider, regarding those white panels near Hayden, I spent 47 years in the surface mining industry and never have seen anything like them. My best guess is that they are some kind backsite for surveying. Usually the older surveyors would set backsites at known physical points to help determine a fairly accurate map location for any new points. As far as the large panels are concerned, maybe at some point they had a more definitive target marked on them.

So it remains a mystery. Maybe some old timers could chime in with microwave experience to solve the question without a doubt.

I'm not a expert, but I agree an expert would be nice. When I went to work at Duval mine aka Freeport, in 1976 there was one of those towers on top of a mountain aimed toward Tucson. When I asked about it I was told it was for microwave communications. Signals would bounce off of the different towers. I would guess early 60's technology. Most of the old guard I could ask aren't around any more.

Visited friends in Arkansas, decided I wanted to drive the Gulf Coast again before He comes for me -

East to west, finally got to Brownsville, Tejas tonite; fron Tallahassee, Florida. And lemme tell ya whut - It's a whole lot farther than it looks on a 10" iPad screen -
