Last weekend we ran out to get my dads old quad from my brother Ryan's' in Edmonton (4 hours from us). It had been sitting in his garage for the last 7 years. Our challenge was plastics, they had cracked and pieces broke off. 1986-1989 Honda Fourtrax TRX350 plastics are unavailable. Honda never released the patent rights to their plastics. No jobber company could manufacture replacement parts for this reason. This year we would like my brothers son Decklin (13yo) to have a starter quad for hunting. I found a couple of plastic corner pieces off a Freightliner truck laying around. They worked amazingly well... the right curvature, strength and price $$. A few bolts and fender washers and we're almost there. Next a carburetor clean, oil change and fresh gas!

Tons on ebay. Heres a few from Maier. They are expensive though. They will be just slightly different than stock. I used to restore a lot of Honda ATCs and I always used Maier plastics most of the time unless I could find some sweet o.e.m. plastics. Cool project you got there. I understand not putting nice fenders on though for his first 4 wheeler lol.

I had an 86 I got when I was 12. That thing was a beast. My buddies had 300ex’s at the time and I could climb hills they wouldn’t even try. I’d deflate the tires and just send it. It was super heavy and I was scared to roll it. The steering would give you popeye arms if you rode in the woods enough. Put a lot of miles on that girl. She would go about 36 mph down the road.

Nuther option is Northern Plastics in Salmon Arm, BC probably have an outlet in Alberta too, not sure. Anyways I buy 3mm thick 4’ by 10’ lengths of black UHMW and use it for all types of projects. E.g., cab for my P500, mud flaps, fender extenders etc. Stuff is tougher than a boiled owl, easy to work with using basic wood working tools.

TRX350.... bullet proof and he’ll have mucho strong upper body after riding for a while, great starter rig for sure.

Cheers,
jrc

We got the old beast back the other day. After sitting for several years, it required a new throttle cable, a carb cleaning and a new float needle including a battery. $ 400 CDN all in. The young nephew will really be excited to drive his own machine during our hunting camp this year! That green trailer and quad is what my dad used to move hunting camp into the bush, about 3 miles from where we park our vehicles. Usually 4 or 5 trips to get all our gear into camp and the same plus animal trips if we were lucky!
