If you can wait a few months get a 2018 model, they will have a few more updates not advertised. Best thing you can do though is move out of IL as fast as you can. No where to ride, property taxes double every 5 years, and state is on verge of bankruptcy. Once it goes under should be called Madgadistan after the supermajority congressional leader who spent the last 40 years running it into the ground. Not to mention they just increased state income taxes by 66% this year.
Couldn't agree more!

I haven't heard of any but, if you can wait for the 2018 models, there have been some additional changes with regard to that and the new engines have them already. Should see them in Aug/ September time frame.

What changes are going to happen exactly? I assume the new pre-filter cover under the hood, already fixed the heat problem with that thin rubber flap under the seat (LOL), what about the transmission? Please tell me a low reverse gear ;-) do you work at a dealer too?

I can definitely wait a few months, but every second I spend without one my wife is getting more and more used to not paying for one. Getting another one now is easy, convincing her to get one in a couple months will be harder haha!

Speaking of low reverse gear, how do these transmissions actually work. Is it possible to make a low reverse by messing with the linkages. I mean in theory, like if the shifter was disconnected, could you reach under the seat and hold it in low and hold it in reverse at the same time?

No, H &L is not affecting R only. It is what it is.

I don't work at a dealer, they usually don't find out maybe a few hours before info is in the wild. I can't go into details as to what exactly was changed per issue as I personally do not know. Let's just say a few of us have a friend of a friend who does know and if too much is said the flow of valuable information will stop. I was going to buy (2) 2017s back in Feb and was privately cautioned to wait. The engines for the 2018 models have important changes that should affect longevity in certain environments, these are enroute to USA for production line assembly. So I am waiting patiently for 1 each of a 1000-3 and a 1000-5.

Well crap, maybe I'll hold off for a couple months... I guess if it turns out to be nothing then my 2017 price will be even cheaper then :)

We are buying two more P3s this year but don't need them until Sept or Oct. Based on what I've read, I think I'm going to wait. I was in the dealer two days ago and was probably going to do something next week. As much as I'd like to get them now and start getting the mods done we need to do, it sounds like it would be smart to wait. Glad I read this thread.

Between the clutches, water ingestion, and heat complaints it built a fire under thier ass too, (pun intended) to deal with those issues. The 2018 should address all 3 with the least effective change being the heat, easiest way is add a bilge fan and be done with it.
If they don't fix the 16's, wonder if Honda will offer a discount on the 18's?

Hard to say, but there "might" be a fix for the 16 & 17 models that need it. No idea when or if it happens all supply chain related on parts.

Saw this on hondapro Kevin's site:

2018 Honda Pioneer 1000-5
2018 Pioneer 1000-5 VS 2017 Pioneer 1000-5 Changes? None. No color changes to note for 2018 as this base model 2018 Pioneer 1000-5 gets the same carryover colors from last year.

So if there are any changes they probably won't be advertised?

That's probably a good thing for me 'cause I'm still really enjoying my OLD '16 PK-3.

Now that the 2018s are listed will the friend of friend fill us all in on what changes were made? Or maybe we will never know what changes were or were not made?

I am not aware of any information regarding changes that will be made public yet. The water ingestion fix is already known, still holding hope there will be a kit offered to retrofit the 2016, 2017 models for addressing the machines with clutch issues. Sorry I don't know what would be in that kit, but I suspect it will have something to reduce oil temps and increase flow or pressure, perhaps all three. I am speculating though.

The guessing game is so much fun.
