I thought I saw a post before, but couldn’t find it when I needed it. I am calling the local sheetmetal guy to get a full sheet metal top made for my 1000-5 if the price is below the plastic top. I’m tired of trailering the canvas top. Wondering if anyone has ideas or pics of ones they made or had made. I’m looking for your “I wish I woulda” list. Also any idea about how much it would cost? Thanks!

I had 3 aluminum tops made P3 size for $700. And change don't remember exact number.
Another $30.00 each to powder coat them.

I don't believe I would waste my time getting them powder coated again, just paint them and be done with.

700 total for all three?

Have you considered making your own out of wood ? Mine is working very well, the outdoor carpeting as a headliner is sound dampening. I haven't totaled up my cost yet but believe its under $200.

Haha. I was wondering how I was going to bit it up plowing or driving through trails at 15 mph with a cab load of kids.

I also recommend using plastic. UHMW is great but HDPE will do just as well in this application and is considerably cheaper. I made a 6061 Aluminum top on my 1000-3 and DAMN is it loud when a tree branch smacks it. It also radiates more noise.

I did a 1/2" HDPE top on my new 1000-3 LE machine and like it a lot better. Its quieter and still more than strong enough. It also slides along trees and rocks a lot better.

Ruber coat

Green treat 1/2" plywood and 2"x 2" green treat frame and this product. If you do a good job you wont even know its wood.

When I was looking into what to do for a roof I looked at all the options then thought " Well hell I have all the tools in my shop to make what I want out of wood. "

Another option that I use is an Alien Shade but it won't stop the rain.

The alien shade would be nice if there were a good option to spray on it to fill the holes. And there may be, but I’m not familiar with such a product. Thinking something like that flex seal crap. I think I would actually use mine more.

That is a good idea but if it's raining I just don't ride, plus it is parked undercover.

Couldn’t you use two layers and just sew a top one out of regular canvas top maybe some snaps so it snaps to the alien shade version, the. If it rain you can just pop it on and off?
