Has anyone figured out where to get the special tool to remove the flexible boots on the steering and axle joints?

trying to remove the boot where the drivers side tie rod goes into the steering rack. there is a joint in there and it seems to have some play in it. the boot has some weird tie strap on it that requires a special tool to remove it.

I'm wanting to inspect that steering joint due to the appearance of slop. it makes me uneasy thinking that steering joint may be compromised.

10-4, I've had to tighten mine as well. I cut the metal band and pulled the boot for the repair. Then I used a wide cable tie pulled real tight. The first time I removed them was for the installation of the steering stops. Then the next time was because the passenger side seemed loose and after taking it apart, it was still dry. Which says a lot for the amount of water I ride in.

I haven't paid any attention to this machine, but on almost every single rig they use a ratchet style clamp that isn't made to be removed. You will have to cut or pry it to get it off. Then buy the tool to put a new one on. Think zip tie.

I just use Screw on hose clamps although people say that style of clamp can't have enough force to hold the boot on the joint, I haven't had any problems with them.

As for the special tool, you can use these "bull nose" pliers or "nippers". Good luck getting them in there. I've successfully used them on axle boot bands but I had the axle out. That way I could reuse the oem band or just pinch a Pex pipe ring.

My stuff came with a roller looking attachment with a slit. The tool is like 30 bucks and pulls the band tight then folds it back over itself. I think its a pretty hoopdy setup so I scrapped it.

I had my axles out when I was working on my Polaris as well. No way to make any of it work with parts in place. Aside from screw on hose clamps

If you buy the oem bands, you can use the bull nose pliers pictured above.
